I know some people knock it, but we've never had problems from using AVG Free edition, which is free.

Use AVG or Avast. Does the job well as well. Why pay for something when there are free alternatives there?

AVG is a good basic anti virus package but does have it's limitations. You need only go to their website to see the significant difference between the free version and the paid for version (http://free.avg.com/gb-en/download-a...s-free-edition).

At the moment Curry's are doing Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 for £23.99 which comes with 3 licences (ie install on 3 different PC's), £8 per PC per year.

Party on dudes

FYI if you buy the older version the license entitles you to free upgrades (i.e. the latest version), you just have to download it from the Kaspersky site.

I thought I'd try Kaspersky 2009 from Barclays since it's free and people say it is better than other free software. It blocked my Internet connection and I could not sort it out. When I contacted Kaspersky, they said that some of my other securirty programs are incompatible with Kaspersky and I need to disable some settings. I am not going to do that because I have no problems with my present security software and compatibility (Avast, Spybot, Ad-aware, ccleaner, commodo firewall, all free, BTW).

So, before you spend any money, make sure your software is compatible with Kaspersky (you can get a 30-day free trial directly from Kaspersky web site and see if it works with your system).

Needless to say, I stick with my present software.

Try Avira free AV and Comodo free firewall - work well together
