is it worth shelling out on this or buying an actual replacement case for my 3.5" hard drive? (case power thingie is damaged, hence the need for a new case to connect to p.c)

This is a good deal, however for £4.28 more, you can get an Icy Box Dock delivered, which has esata and tips the balance for me (just ordered one). Doesn't have a card reader or usb hub like this. I believe it supports linux as I found the chipset in a startech dock which claimed linux support.

Looks unbranded, only 28p more for Icy Box brand . Does have a there year warranty however, icy is 2 years iirc.

I ordered one from the last offer and got a (gogopets hamster mobile toy), and cant get an answer from play.com to replace it.

If you want to connect the same external drive frequently then get it a case, this sort of thing is more for testing drives or copying data off of internal ones out of broken computers..
