It depends really, does the e-mail not tell you what sort of thing to wear? If not, you've got a couple of options. Check what they wear in the shop, I'm pretty sure it's smart/casual shirt or t-shirt and jeans. If you get a job with them that's the sort of thing you'd be wearing, so it might be a good idea to go with that.

Failing that, if you want to go a bit smarter, you could go with jeans and shirt with a skinny tie - looks casual but can also be taken as smart. Essentially they'll be looking to see what you'd be like in-store, that's why I wouldn't recommend a suit etc...

they should normally tell you the dress code. If they dont smart trousers and shirt is always best keep a tie handy too. I've heard not so good things about river island i had a few friends work there before. managers swear, bit of bullying etc. normal questions are what do you know about the company, why do you think you would be good at the job. sometimes they ask what are your future plans to see if you are likely to stay

am not sure, it sounds like you may have a group interview as you mentioned recruitment event. I really hate these hands down. Unless the money can justify it for me then its different story. They ask really crap questions like, if you could be an animal what would you be? ofcourse everyone sais LION whats the next guy meant to say. So be prepared, might be a group upto 10 people so not exactly small. I hope you get 1 on 1 interview!

i remember a friend did something like this a few years back - think it was for topshop but not sure as shes worked in a few different stores.


from what i remeber her telling me about it, she was put into a group and had to do taks e.g. find an outfit for a £.. spend etc

When i speak to her next il ask her what else she did, as i cant really remember.


Oh and by the way id go for a smart look - shirt, trousers, tie.

also your probs do an ice breaker task to start with. and maybe even be asked y you chose what your wearing to the event. good luck!!!

I just got my invite to a recruitment event... I did a bit of research into what to expect and i'll give you a few tips...
Wear something you feel comfortable in but that shows you are representing their image e.g. Jeans, funky t-shirt, cardigan, check shirt along with like a beanie and appropriate accessories, u also dont need shoes, pimsolls or other RI trainers are fine. You are going for a sales assisstants job not an office job, they expect you to reflect their image.
As far as the interview goes you will be split into groups and given a presentation, this generally consists of a piece of paper with a celebs name on it as well as an event they are attending from a premier to justs the cinema. You will be asked to create a look that best represents them and why,
Expect questions like: Why do u want to work in RI? What will you bring to RI? What customer relation skills do you hold etc.
Try to be chatty they like that and make yourself known but dont be too cocky!
Most importantly ask questions!!!! If you dont they just think your not interested. Ask something like is there anything you would like me to be more familier with if im offered the job? Or ask something like Is there a staff changing room! Silly things are good, they'll make managers remember you!
I got these ideas from a River Island store manager if you were doubting any of this!

I knew someone who did this for River island too. MAKE sure you wear river island clothes, mate said that people who didn't were turned away saying they didn't fit the company's 'image'. So goto your nearest store and buy some clothes you will wear to interview.
