Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (full version) £49.97 @ Tesco

£49.97

-319°

FOUND BY: tightar5e 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Originally 49.97 in September (44.97 with £5 off voucher)
Windows 7 - Tesco don't honour the price if the item is 'undelivered'
Payment is taken immediately.
Item might be delivered early, so it may be returned early by City-link - 'tough'
Tesco don't email when item has been dispatched, can't be tracked online.
Tesco don't respond to emails regarding replacing damaged items - only a refund is given.
(So you will have to order at the new higher price = 94.97), 'every little helps'.
PLEASE DON'T EXPIRE, hopefully you'll be as shocked as me being given the only option of re-ordering at double the price by Tesco, instead of just paying for re-delivery
PLEASE VOTE COLD IF YOU AGREE (update: 10/11-now £102.44)

Are there any advantages of buying the full version over the upgrade version? I have Vista installed on my PC but have been using the Win 7 Evaluation Copy and much prefer it!

If I upgrade from Vista, will it be the same as if I wiped everything and installed Windows 7 from scratch?

I think, with an upgrade copy, you would need to re-install Vista first, each time you re-format your hard drive. The retail W7 version can be installed directly on the clean Hard drive. I have seen the retail version for less than £40 here on HotUK. If you wait a bit, I'm sure cheaper offers will come along.

i would always go for a clean install over an upgrade of any software especially microsoft products...upgrades are just a fudge and are for cowboys....if for some reason you have to reinatll windows, then you have the fun of install vista first then 7...after my experience and hassle with 98 and ME (though to be fair MS worst ever OS!!), never again

You can still do a 'clean' install with an upgrade version, but you have to have a qualifying OS on your hard drive (in this case, XP or Vista). You are given the option to format and partition the hard drive once the qualifying product has been verified.

As far as re-installations are concerned, you would have to put the qualifying product back onto your hard drive, but only up to the point where it has copied the files across. You can then swap the disk for the new OS CD/DVD and install as normal.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm happy to go with the upgrade if it doesn't involve TOO much faffing around...... I'm in no rush to buy as the EC runs out in March (I think) so I can hold off for a proper bargain (after forgetting to pre-order for £50!)

Ordered Windows 7 Home Premium Full Version from Tesco in September when the price was £49.99, Citylink attempted to deliver this item early on the 22nd October, then tried again a week later, it was then immediately returned to Tesco, not held. (Also unusually Citylink did not leave with a neighbour-were they told by Tesco not to - to increase the number of failed deliveries?)
As I expected delivery the day after the release date ie. around the 24th, so expected to be able to pick up the item on my return, but as delivery was attempted early, it was also returned early to Tesco, so I was unable to arrange redelivery.
Tried emailing Tesco but got no response, then phoned this morning, and Tesco are issuing a refund only, they will not honour the price, and expect you to re-order at the new price nearer £95. They are adamant this is 'company policy'
This isn't the usual helpful Tesco, but one looking to make a quick buck from failed deliveries.
Escalated my complaint and spoke to Claire Gill, a manager in Dundee who was totally unhelpful, and wouldn't even give me a name of someone senior to write a complaint to - just to send one to their generic address/generic email address i.e tescodirect@tesco.com

If the item had been damaged they would have to send a replacement, so they are just being bloody minded.
I've not accepted their offer of a refund as I intend to take it to head office, as the item was delivered early and therefore returned early, in relation to the published date of release of Windows 7.
If that doesn't work I'll just stick with XP, or switch to a Mac, at least their £25 upgrade price has stayed consistent, Windows 7 is up and down - all over the place - probably about as stable as Windows 7 then.
