TV Confusion, need help :O)

POSTED BY: bitseylango 2 weeks, 3 days ago

OK, so thinking of buying our son a new TV for his room to replace the big fat CRT.
Now, he plays his xbox on it and watches TV ( obviously). We want to put it on the wall too. Looking for roughly a 32" or maybe a little smaller.
Not after specific makes or deals at the moment, but what specs should I be looking for? We have an LCD as a main TV, but Im confused about Plasma;s LCD and LED (?)
Any input would be appreciated, thanks

LED if you can afford it, stunning picture, low power consumption and ultra thin.
£640 for 32"

TBH it's subjective as LCD is a bit of a picture downgrade from a good CRT and even plasmas arent as good its just they support higher resolutions and have modern inputs and of course are far smaller!

OK so that's LED out then, between plasma and LCD i would steer towards LCD, only because generally they use less power and last longer.

You have three main choices

LCD, Plasma, LED.

LED would be a waste of money imo, so discount that.

Plasma would be best for Standard definition, so freeview and stuff. However i've only ever seen one 32" plasma, generally they start at 37", so probably go for an LCD

720p = HD ready
1080p = Full HD

On a 50", possibly a 42" you might be able to tell the difference between the two. I have a 37" plasma, which is HD ready, a Bluray looks amazing through it though.

So that being said i would go for a 32" LCD tv. 720p would be fine so don't worry about either figure. The bigger the contrast ratio the better (the difference between the darkest point and the highest point)

Other than that just go for one that you like the look of. John Lewis has a good selection in their store, then find it cheaper elsewhere and get them to pricematch!!

Just be aware that in currys, john lewis etc. they are all running off one aerial if it's a freeview picture, so it will be pretty poor. A BluRay going through them will look amazing, not much difference between the cheapest and most expensive to most people.

I quite like the look of LG LCD tvs

With ll due respect that's pants My plasma is rated for 80,000 hours, plenty of time!!

A better reason would be the one i pointed out, i.e it would be too big!
