B&W film is stunning
Colour I've never seen and would never bother with IMO

I have this film on DVD from a couple of years ago but keep reading that the region 1 version is a lot sharper (and I've seen various pictures to prove it). Can anyone who has this 'new' version let me know if this DVD is an improvement - if so I would certainly buy it again as its a real family favourite.

Many thanks.

It seems to say it is the same here but they are also talking about the region 1 version!

:
Firstly disc 1 is EXACTLY the same as the previous edition (the 60th Anniversary releases from 2006) - dual-layered, progressive and as pristine as one could have hoped for on this format.

While we're discussing different versions, I thought I'd point out that all PAL (Region 2) DVDs have 4% PAL speedup (so 4% shorter run-time), while NTSC (Region 1) DVDs have slightly lower vertical resolution (480 vs 576).

If you want the best version of this (or any film):

1. Bluray will almost always be better than the DVD (best resolution, no PAL speedup). Otherwise:
2. Check dvdcompare.net - this gives info about extras etc on different region dvds.
3. Check dvdbeaver.com for excellent image comparisons (though not every film is there).
4. If you're concerned with PAL speedup go for NTSC (Region 1).
5. If you want slightly more resolution go for the (Region 2).

If you don't care - buy the cheapest!
