Car Insurance. 17 Years Old Lad. Help Please :)

POSTED BY: corshy 2 weeks, 6 days ago

Hi there,
I've got my driving test on the 11th November and I was looking into car insurance. The cheapest quote I can find is for £1800 on quinn direct.com (3rd party fire and theft). I've got a 1998 Ford Fiesta 1299cc 3 door. Are there any website's people could recommend apart from the usual price comparison ones that could do a cheaper quote than I got?
Thanks,
Corshy

Thanks :D. I got one quote that was £7316 (3rd Party) it's just a joke, but I guess that the statistics are there to back it up, but not to that extent. I tried getting a quote from tesco, but they wouldan't insure me unless I ring up, will try if I pass my test.

You adding a parent as a named driver??
That will bring it down a lot.

Get an established, older, longtime driver (like a parent) on the quote and pust yourself on as a named driver. Cheaper that way and sumone els can drive it too!

the post office is very cheap for young drivers too...although they may only do fully comp insurance...certainly the cheapest for lots of people i know and it beat my quinn direct quote (the 2nd cheapest) by a whopping £250!

start phoning around as many places as you can; with each new place tell them the last quote you got - but knock a hundred quid off, e.g. you phone churchill and they offer you insurance for £1000, then phone Direct line but tell them Churchill offered you insurance for £900 and so on, see if they'll price match - and let thet be the end of the shennanigans (no fibbing on the actual paperwork).

He's never gonna build his own NCB up that way. Also, if the ins. company find out that the named driver is in fact the main driver then the policy will be voided.

i feel sorry for the youngsters trying to get a reasonably priced insurance, not all of them drive round like lewis hamilton !

trouble with being on your parents policy is you dont build up any no claims which then helps with a cheaper renewal for next time.

I think you mean you and sis are named drivers on your parents car? And you don't have your own car?

My son is 24 and I tried to go that route with DL but they would'nt have it as he was going to be the main driver. A named driver is supposed to be an occasional driver. If it's OPs own car and he's gonna be the main driver they won't allow him do that.
