iphone help really needed

I would like to know, If i buy an ex-contract unlocked iphone will all of the functions work?
also, om i best getting 2g or 3g, could you explain the difference.
I dont want to sound like i can not be bothered looking for answers on internet myself because I spent most of yesterday looking but im still abit puzzled as to weather its better to buy 2g as they are cheaper or 3g because that are supposed to be faster, i mean how slow is the 2g phone? before 3g they had to be 2g and they was still all the rage, I really am stuck here and would appreciate your help.

Hi. i bought a iphone 3g 16gb off ebay 2 days ago,
i use a o2 simplicity sim with unlimited data for web browsing. everything works apart from visual voicemail, i have set up wifi so i am permanantly on the net at home, i got the o2 3g settings off o2's web site, i have set-up email i recive at home or over 3g i have jailbroken mine already, the differance between 2g and 3g is connection speed to the web. 2g is prob 20 seconds slower per page/web site if ther is alot of data to load. i think 3g iphone is a little faster processor/newer componants inside.  |

its basically, someone has had an iphone on contract and they decide to sell it. usally on ebay, i really think most of them on ebay are ex-contract phones.
Would you say that a 2g was still fast enough to use or worth paying more for 3g? |
