What about device manager, click on roll back drivers if you can, worked for me. If not, try re instaling them or updating them.

Is the network manager applet showing in the panel? If not, open a terminal window and type
Code: Select all
nm-appletto
bring it up. If it's showing a red "X", then right-click on it and make sure wireless networking is enabled. Then left-click on it and select the network to which you want to connect.

You may need to go into the routers settings and under 'Wireless devices' authorise your Acer Aspire's MAC address
