Lost iphone

POSTED BY: nadss 1 week, 6 days ago

My son has lost his iphone, it's likely that someone has picked it up as it was switched on and had a full battery when he lost it and now its going straight to voicemail. What are the options here, heard about this tracking gprs thing, but do you need to take this out before it's lost? Anyone know what O2 can offer as to a new phone, or the way the contract stands now?

This is probably too late now, but maybe useful in future ? I have a mac mobile me account which using the gps locate your iphone (even if switched off) and can display a message on screen. read more about it below. I think it needs to be switching on your iphone (ie not default switched on) when setting up

Maybe there's an alternative application to apple's out there ?

Hi Nadds I know this isnt the same thing but I had my phone stolen - was an LG Viewty. I know that it was a handyman I had in my house that stole it (another story). I called up 3 who blocked the phone for me. Even though I didnt have insurance for the phone, they sent me another phone as long as I agreed to extend my contract by another year from date new phone was sent out - which I was happy to do

I hope u get something sorted

If you have noted the IMEI the police can block the phones use in the UK.
That however, doesn't help you. Unless it's insured, you'll have to buy a replacement phone - o2 will still hold you to your existing contract, and certainly won't give a freebie (although if you extend the contract as if it's a new one they may, but you'd essentially be paying for it).

+1

You have let O2 know?

You're liable for all changes until you let them know it's lost/stolen, so if you haven't called them yet do it now...

As above unless you have insurance the contract is still valid this isn't a reason for them to cancel it, they'll send you a new sim for free but not a new phone...

You sure you didnt pay the handyman to take it?...

echo other peoples comments here. The contract still stands with regards to the monthly tariff charge until the contract term ends.

the phone is a loss unless you can claim a new one under your home insurance? Might be worthwhile checking the policy details...
