Carphone Warehouse £15 refund for Windows 7 on Dell Inspiron 17

Last month I purchased Dell Inspiron 17 from Carphone Warehouse, and Windows 7 upgrade was advertized as free, but at that time it wasn't released from Microsoft.

Yesterday, I received a letter stating that I would get a £15 refund for Windows 7 upgrade.

The content of the letter:

"
We're sorry - we made a mistake when we explained your Windows 7 upgrade.

What happened?
When you bought your Dell Inspiron 17 from our website / call center, we said you would be eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7. However, we didn't tell you that the manufacturer would charge £15 post and packaging to send the software to you.

This is an important piece of information and we should have made it clear. We're very sorry for this oversight, and we're sending you a cheque to make up for it.

What happens next?
You'll be sent a cheque for £15 to compensate for our mistake and any inconvenience caused. The cheque will arrive in the next 14 working days - you don't need to do anything.

If you have any other questions, give us a call on 0870 087 0168 and we will be happy to help you. If you haven't upgraded to Windows 7 yet, you can find our more by visiting www.carphonewarehouse.com/windows7upgrade.

It is a bargain for me, as currently experiencing some problems with Windows 7 on my work machine, like application hang and screen flashing. Therefore not much concerned to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.

After Quidco and Windows 7 refund, the total cost of the laptop for me is:

£329.00 - £15.00 (Win7) - £16.45 (Quidco) = £297.55

That's interesting, I wonder if I can get the reseller I bought my wife's new laptop from to refund me the extortionate £28 that Toshiba want me to pay to get a "free" 7 upgrade.

You actually paid the £15 to get it refunded so you paid £15 more for the computer
than you think..............

still a hot deal though.............

says that link has been on their site since 9/10/09 no it has not they stuck it up to keep themselves covered.#


To op did they contact yo out of the blue to tell you this as my studio 15 also came with Free upgrade with no mention on that Dell would charge £15 shipping

I hate to say "I told you so". People should request a refund from all suppliers who promised a "free" upgrade.
