I remember the first time my Ma enjoyed a Viennetta ... the look on her face, you'd have thought she was dining at the Ritz, God bless her little cottonsocks.

I don't get that. It is made by Unilever, and like any other of their products, it is a triumph of chemical engineering over nature.

Just look at the list of ingredients: it is full of chemicals - not at all what premium ice cream should be.

Of course good competition is rather rare in this country. I have never seen Mövenpick anywhere, and both Ben&Jerry and Haagen Daz are ridiculously expensive. But you should try give them a try: that is proper ice cream (unless you get the Ben&Jerry frozen yogurt of course...).

When it first came out i dunno must have been well over 20 years ago there were no other priemum ice cream and this was it !

Ah, but you're falling into a brand name trap too! Try, for instance, Lidl's Bourbon Vanilla in the blue tub.

I too remember when Viennetta was a special dessert for Christmas. It does seem a little less special now you can get it this cheap.
