Hi, any tips on how to tell whether your pc would handle this please?

I've got an Everest tool, that I downloaded, that summarises the system, but I'm a bit slower when it comes to pcs than many others.

As it is, I've only got 512mb RAM, so have to add more anyways.

Thank you for anyone who can help ;)
Edit - here's some info about it here -

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4 540J, 3200 MHz (16 x 200)
Video Adapter Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family (128 MB)
Video Adapter Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family (128 MB)
3D Accelerator Intel GMA 900

equalityforall - It is unlikely that your pc will have a PCI express 2.0 slot, and even if it does, it is even less likely that is has the required power connectors or a PSU capable of delivering the power required for this very hungry card.

agree with mrrobin it sounds like you have a old pc, so i doubt it will fit due to power supply requirements and the pci express slot.

Thanks MrRobin and Computerman, it is a bit of older kit, and I guessed it would have been a push to get something fantastic into it. Oh well!

Much appreciated!! And repped ;)

It's even less likely that I'd know what to do to install it, even if it had been compatible!

Worth getting as much ram as it can handle if you want to just do a small cheap and well worth while upgrade.

PCIe 2.0 is backwards compatible with earlier versions of PCIe. If you use a very high performance PCIe 2.0 card the older and slower PCIe buss will be a bottleneck. I’m not sure if the HD 4870 512MB has enough grunt for PCIe 1.0 to be a significant bottleneck!

From what I’ve seen the card pulls up to around 130W and requires dual 6 pin PCIe power connectors.
If you’re motherboard has a PCIe slot which judging from the details you gave it should it will accept the card. It’s unlikely that your system will have dual 6 pin PCIe power connectors but if the power supply has enough juice you can use both the dual molex to PCIe adapters that the card seems to come with.
However, the CPU in your system will be a bottleneck I think so you won’t get the best out of the card. So even if your power supply is up to the job it may well be too big an upgrade to make sense. A HD 4770 probably makes more sense as it consumes much less power and I doubt the performance difference would be so noticeable with your CPU.

No-one has picked up on what he said so I thought i'd clarify something.
The 512mb RAM on the card is for the card only... not for you're system.

You're CPU is an old Prescott core Pentium 4 Socket 775. It is possible that you're motherboard has a PCI-Express slot but currently it is using onboard graphics of the motherboard.
You will need a new Powersupply to be able to power this card I expect but its possible it could work but you might need molex to PCI-E power converters - if they even exist.

Another thing to take on board is the physical dimensions of the card and if you're casing/motherboard will accomodate it.

Ultimately the card is going to be held back by you're machine... severely.
You're computer is about 6 years old to be honest.
Time for an upgrade!...

for a pc that old in technology i wouldnt waste the cash and dump it, invest in a better pc and then get the card, anything that old isnt worth it move on.
people telling u to increase the ram so u can buy that card are wasting your cash for you, for example buy a cheap dell then use the g/card here.

The HD4870 is a really good card, but it seems to perform noticably better with 1GB of ram on it.

Tis true, but if your gaming on a smaller screen, say 17 or 19" then it shouldn't make too much difference. If your using a 22" or greater then you way want to consider the 1GB version.

Great deal though.
