Aren't you better off going for the 2 x 8gb cards (same PNY Optima class 4) at the same price from Play instead (for the convenience and safey aspect)?

I am hoping to get a DSLR for Christmas (big hints dropped to the wife), the Sony Alpha A330.
This card looks like a good choice, but is the sustained write speed of 8 mb/s good? Are there not some that hit 9 mb/s (or have I imagined that?)?

I would also go for the twin pack of the 2 8GB for convenience and safety for the same price.

Looked at this a while back and went for the 2 x 8 Gig instead.. even shooting at 15 megapixel you get a decent number of pics on an 8 gig. Had a sandisk card full of pics fail on me and have been jumpy using big cards ever since, for the few seconds it takes to swap one...

I have one of these that I use as a flash drive and camera memory and it's quite good... but if you use it as a flashdrive too, it's a bit slow. It takes around half an hour to fill it with files and about 10 minutes to copy all the files back into the computer.

Load of rubbish. you are safe with any size of flash memory. I use memory cards daily, never lost any data., cards have gone tits up in the past but image rescue has got all the data back.

Smaller size memory cards like 4gb are more convinient when burning a DVD.

I understand that the class refers to the minimum write speed, class 4 has minimum write speed of 4mb/s, class 6 has 6mb/s. The sustained speed is another matter, so I think you can actually get class 4 cards which are faster than class 6 cards.

Sustained speed on this one is 8mb/s which I reckon is quite good (altough I don't know much about it!). Think I will go for the 2 x 8mb for backup on safari next year

Well I've had one of the Kingston 16GB cards go bad on me at work, which was a pain in the backside. They replaced it but that's not really the point. I find that a 4GB card is fine most of the time as that stores just under 1000 shots. 8GB is great for a longer holiday.

I never re-write my cards now either - I only write on them once and keep them as backup. I didn't used to think twice about paying £4 or so for a film which only stores 36 pics so an £8 SD card with nearly 1000 pics seems like a bargain!
