Babel DVD - £2.99 delivered @ HMV

£2.99

157°

FOUND BY: millarcat 4 months, 4 days ago

In the remote sands of the Moroccan desert, a rifle shot rings out - detonating a chain of events that will link an American tourist couple's frantic struggle to survive, two Moroccan boys involved in an accidental crime, a nanny illegally crossing into Mexico with two American children and a Japanese teen rebel whose father is sought by the police in Tokyo. Separated by clashing cultures and sprawling distances, each of these four disparate groups of people are nevertheless hurtling towards a shared destiny of isolation and grief. In the course of just a few days, they will each face the dizzying sensation of becoming profoundly lost - lost in the desert, lost to the world, lost to themselves - as they are pushed to the farthest edges of confusion and fear as well as to the very depths of connection and love.

Good price but for me it was a depressing, pointless film I wasted 2 and a half hours of my life watching.

The Japanese link was rather tenuous, I really liked the closing score by Ryuichi Sakamoto.

One of the best films made over the past 10 years.

For people that are more into blockbusters like Terminator and Die Hard sort of films then this might not be to their taste, but if you can appreiciate a good film without loads of explosions and special effects then you should like it.

Personally i'd like to spend a bit extra and get it on blu-ray.

I liked Inarritu's previous films but this one didn't really have much of an effect on me. The stories seemed a bit disjointed and I didn't really care about the characters.

The music and landscapes were good though!

I would strongly disagree with "one of the best films made over the past 10 years"

Very dull longer than it needed to be film, each to their own I guess but certainly not one of the best films in 10 years.

Well on IMDB from a current 84,220 votes it gets a generous average of 7.7 votes out of 10. Which would make it regarded as one of the best films in recent years. Even Crash gets little more at 8/10.

There's a site here that also lists it. Like you say though - each to their own, but it is highly regarded.

Although Planes Trains and Automobiles gets 7.5 on their... :-s

I personally didn't like Babel. Really wanted to but it just left me cold. Preferred Crash even if it was a bit heavy handed and manipulative.

Planes Trains and Automobiles is a classic film of it's type, but it was made about 20 years ago.

Not a total waste of time, only alright.

Also preferred Crash as a film with interwoven plots, far more engaging stories and characters
