To be fair, the "Casino Royale" movie, as good as Daniel Craig was as Bond, could have been any action hero story... it was not really a 007 story. And it had far too long a running time, in my opinion.
If our hero had been wearing an off-white vest, it could have been Bruce Willis in "Die (if you're) Hard [we've had] Enough", for instance.
There was also talk of Halle Berry's character, Jinx, from "Die Another Day" having a spin-off movie prior to "Casino Royale", but this was dropped [un]fortunately... depending on your point of view.
Of course Ian Fleming's "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" was the fore-runner for Bond's gadget-laden vehicle (placement) of choice, but the girls do change with the times.
When Timothy Dalton took Bond's role there was a definite trend to making the agent less promiscuous during those stories... only for this to be reversed when Pierce Brosnan's casting began.
...and, Bond (played by George Lazenby) does get married in one story; "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"... only for Mrs Bond to become the late-Mrs Bond very soon thereafter.
[One wonders if I really need this box set!
