yup but who cares if all you want is cheap space. i dont imagine you would notice much, probably any, difference in reality if you were an average user.

To be honest, I would rather pay a bit more and get cheap AND fast space.

8mb cache only.
How much do you need to be considered good and fast?

Can you point me towards some benchmarks to indicate the kind of speed increase extra cache will bring please so I can objectively evaluate my purchase?

people get all excited over cache, but people think its offers alot better performance that it actually does. I doubt id pay 7 quid for it

The blue bar is the 8mb on sustained read. Green 16mb.

howver, with postage. 16mb prolly better value anyway.

But does it make a quantifiable difference? Or is it like graphics cards, where putting a large amount of memory on a card with a low-mid end GPU actually makes no difference whatsoever?

No, it doesnt. As graph shows, its minimal. Infact most people wouldnt even notice.

I mean how often do you sit there looking at transfer speeds, thats the only way you would ever tell... and if you sit there looking at transfer speeds, then you have plenty of free time on your hands, so dont need a fast hard drive.

Considering the cheapest delivery option if you can't pickup is £4.99 for a total of £74.37, the ebuyer one gets my thumbs up af £74.99 with FREE POSTAGE! The extra cost is now only 62p.

And the prize goes to 'tj9at_jp' who figured out how many pennies extra the 8meg of cache costs..even if theres only a tiny performance differance, bragging rights dictate 16meg! unless you are really tight

the drive can predict and cache more, therefore under certian circumstances the extra 8 will help for sure!
