I use the Netgear WGE111 on my 360 and used it with my original xbox prior to that and haven't had a single problem to date.

Just in case it matters my router is the Netgear DG834GT.

I've got the D-Link DI-624 Wireless Router, and a D-Link DWL-G820 Wireless Gaming/Network Adaptor. Works a treat for my Xbox 360 (and original Xbox)...and because they are both Air Extreme G products, I get 108mbps as opposed to the normal 54mbps for 802.11g products. The router cost me £40 and the gaming adaptor cost £21.

Are there any advantages in having a gaming adapter that isn't a Microsoft one? I am thinking about getting one but not sure which to go for.

I can use my Linksys Wireless-G Gaming Adapter with anything that's got an ethernet connection, not just the xbox. The downside is it needs it's own power supply and it's more bulky.

Got one of these, cost me £55 so this is the cheapest I have seen.
Play-asia also do $5 off $50 order vouchers (if you've ordered before from them you usually get one in the parcel) so if you can get one of those it's even cheaper still. I binned my last two thinking I'd never spend $50 in one go!

Just to note this is a .pdf file not actually an item, so beware.

Item is "XBox Wireless Connection D.I.Y. eBook ". Reckon page 3 or 4 they will say, buy a wireless connector

You don't need an official M$ connector, rather pick yourself up a wireless bridge (manufactorer of your choice) and assuming you already have a wireless network at home, you can use this to get urself online no probs.

Netgear WGE111 is one example, can pick them up for about £40 online.

Hi, do you have a link to where you got the gaming adapter from?

Sorry, mate it was about a year and a half ago and I've deleted whatever emails I had from the company I bought it from...however you can probably get one on ebay for about the same price. D-Link may even have a newer version available for the same price now!

And it only does WEP security!

If you can afford it - go with the MS one. It's got seamless integration into the dashboard for configuration, uses the USB for power (so you don't need yet another brick consuming power), and clips neatly onto the back of the 360 (or the HDDVD drive if you've got it). It's also 802.11a compatible if you can get a router to match.

Only the poor (or cheapskates) go for 3rd party options
