Asus/BFG Ageia Physx PCI Graphics card Accelerator 128Mb (£119 With Google Checkout)

£119.80

-48°

FOUND BY: quackstar84 2 years, 6 months ago

I'm posting this due to the "Zotac nFire 8800GTS" thread as some members might want to try this new technology (Well its not that new) with their new card.

What is Physics?

Physics is all about how objects in your game move and react. Its not just how things look, but how they behave. In many of todays games, objects just dont seem to act the way youd want or expect. Most of the action is limited to pre-scripted or canned animations. Even the most powerful weapons leave little more than a charred smudge on the thinnest of walls; and every opponent you take out falls in a strangely familiar way. Serious gamers are left with a fine game, but one with a missing sense of realism to make the experience truly immersive.

What is AGEIA PhysX?

Delivering advanced physics is an extremely compute-intensive undertaking, based on a unique set of physics algorithms, requiring tremendous amounts of mathematical and logical calculations with massive memory bandwidth. Simply put, it requires a highly specialized processor to deliver rich immersive environments with features such as:

Explosions that cause dust and collateral debris

Characters with complex, jointed geometries for more life-like
motion and interaction

Spectacular new weapons with unpredictable effects

Lush foliage that sways naturally when brushed against

Dense smoke & fog that billow around objects in motion

Processor Type: AGEIA PhysX
Memory Interface: 128-bit GDDR3 Memory Architecture
Memory Capacity: 128MB
Peak Instruction Bandwidth: 20 Billion Instructions/sec
Sphere-Sphere Collisions/sec.: 530 Million Max
Convex-Convex (Complex) Collisions/sec.: 533,000 Max
Bus Technology: 32-bit PCI 2.3 (3.3v & 5v support)

Updated: dbilsborough helped make me aware of this price.

They would have tried if there was room; AMD and Intel already do this in their so called general purpose CPU (your processor) and nVidia and ATi hardware can be used for physics when idle and they partnered up with the likes of Havok physics, etc to make sure it ran accelerated on graphics hardware... BTW, Ati is now part of AMD. The idea is not new, remember the math co-processor for your BBC B?

Having said that a killer app i.e. a high profile games can boost the sales of such hardware...

I beg ya pardons, I forgot to add “free postage” to those lucky enough to have signed up for it @ Scan (Which would have still meant ebuyer was £5 pounds cheaper)… although it seems they are cheaper then you have stated yourself:

Asus Ageia Physx P1 128MB 128-bit DDR3 PCI - £110.46

Google Checkout £10 Bonus - -£10.00

Subtotal: £100.46

Wonder what that’s about?

Maybe they tried although both Nvidia & ATI rejected their offer?
