Chanser:
Get the Asus P5K-Deluxe.
That was gonna be my 1st choice... but I read that they suffer from heat issues. ASUS MB's are usually pretty solid, butr I don't need the wifi, and the MSI bord is £40 cheeper. It got stonking reviews.

If you have a C2D computer already, and therefore a C2D compatible mboard, is it automatically compatible with all other C2D procs available at the moment or do you have to get one with the correct number of pins, bus speed etc ?

All C2D processors fit in the same socket (775). The processor will fit in your motherbord, but will not run at full speed unless your MB supports a FSB of 1066mhz. (I think most c2d motherbords do these days, but worth checking!)

Nice choice the roller-coaster heatpipe edition. Plus these P35 motherboards will support Penryn apparently.

WOW.... feel a bit peeved now that's £17 cheaper than when I bought mine 3 or 4 weeks ago.... & it's STILL sitting in it's box

Just bought some RAM to go with it. Just the important MB & PSU to complete a usable set-up.

buy computer stuff only when you need it, prices will always drop especially on cpus. ebuyer generally bump up prices on demand just like amazon, however eventually they fall. intel are due to dish out even more new cpus in the coming months (july i heard) so expect more mad price cuts when they flood the market. charlie

RE: csf

Yea well perhaps I was a bit rash but I waited several weeks to see what prices would settle at & still haven't dropped below my purchase price at most vendors. I've just taken an age to decide on the rest of the stuff LOL.
