Any reviews on this? Heard some1 mention these were pretty good.

Also looks black in the pic, but is it actually silver?

Also can anyone confirm this plays HDdvds?

budget player; you get what you pay for. Sony do a similiar player at approx £75 with Amazon which is far superior

A newer version DVP5982 is out in the US with USB 2.0 support and external hard disks can be hooked on without extra power cables required.

I am not sure if or when this will be available here in the UK, can anyone comment or update on this please.

No, it's not a next gen player. It just uses some digital trickery to "upscale" your current DVDs to higher resolution. I recommend actually looking at upscaling players before buying one. Personally I think they often look worse... but it's up to you.

I would agree with all the above comments, especially spending that bit more for the Sony if you got money burning a hole in your pocket, otherwise hold back for now a lot more & superior gadgets to be released this summer.

It is Black and I can vouch for it being a very good player. It does not play HD DVDs.

I can't find a Sony on Amazon with a USB input. How is the Sony far superior?

Pukcode - could you elaborate?

I'm thinking of buying a DVD recorder in the next week or two, but if prices are going to drop in a couple of months (or new shiny gadgets come out that I might prefer) then I'll hold off. Ta.

As I said I can't see any reference to a USB input. Can you confirm it has one? If not it can't play DivXs from a USB stick or harddrive like the Philips. As for Pixmania, they are based in France and their customer service is appalling.

I have the sony and it does not have a USB input.

Can get it multi -region from here.

It is a very good upscaling DVD player.

Nice deal Jefft!!!

I'm not sure you can compare a Sony that is at least £21 dearer and has no USB input. However put it up as a new deal in the forum if you can track down a reliable provider.
