Don't lose out using Coinstar at the supermarket.

You know the Coinstar machines at the supermarket.
They take a commission (About 5%) for sorting your change out.
Great they are, but save yourselfs if you have a HSBC high street branch.

Most of them, now have the machines that are the same, but are FREE, just either type your sort and account number in, or swipe your card.

Load all your change, and it will be credited into your account. You get a little printout with the ammounts of each coin and NO commision, you get the lot.

Sorry about the spelling mistakes.. LOL.. I was excited.

Just to add (As some people are thinking of opening accounts at HSBC just for this).

Some people have posted in the thread that some concept Barclay sites, and some Nationwide also have them at 0%. So best to get looking, paying 7%. 8% or 10% at some sites is silly.

I am only being semi-serious here, but won't charities suffer now that there is a convenient way of depositing all our loose change into our bank accounts?

When I used them at the supermarket before, I always had a moral decision at the end, green, or red button.. The more I read about charities and the money the directors earn, and the amount some spend on advertising, the more I collect the ticket and get the cash. I help charities my way, I have read some disturbing stuff about the RSPCA recently, so sad as it may sound. I think charity begins at home... :(

Now YOU get to choose which charity gets your money.

I think its great I save all our change for our kids and this will save me counting endless coins. It will also encourage me to save more now. I nearly used one of those machines and couldn't believe they wanted to take money at the end. I think if you're making the effort to save your pennies then maybe its the only pennies you've got! (well unfortunately thats the case for me!)

My branch hasn't got the coin counter yet, but it's got a note counter and cheque paying in machine (both give printouts). No more waiting in a long queue for the 2 counters (out of 10) open at lunch times.

I'm a bit confused, does it have to be a whole amount or can you wack a load in there without being worried that you need to make it up to the nearest whole £1 or whatever ?

Thanks ;p

Not really a deal - more a complete and utter waste of time!!

An average family goes to the supermarket once a week and could quite easily take their loose change with them. What your suggesting is that the same average family pay for town centre parking with the all the push and shove just to save 5% on some loose change. Oh and your also assuming that they have an account with HSBC.

Why not just pay the 5%, save the fuel and parking of having to go to the town centre and get a life.......!

Stone cold deal.

5% is 5%!

The idea is you save it all up and pay it in when you go that way??

Isn't that a more eco friendly way to go and save wasting the 5% the supermarkets steal??
