http://sportstracker.nokia.com I would link to my profile but it shows you where I live so will wait till I do a route from somewhere else :)

I'm using the N73, will work on a heap of Nokia phones though.

do you have to upload each time or does it read the location automatically?

seems to be a manual upload, which would help very much in seeing where people are.

you just select upload when you're done, or you can update live but that might use more data (money) haven't tried it yet. Going to use it when I go kayaking to Isle of Wight this weekend on my own so girlfriend knows where to call the coast guard if the signal goes dead :whistling:

Didn't do live update as they weren't by their computers to check and I didn't bother attempting to go to isle of wight, g/f threatened to divorce me but here's my progress.

Got pretty nasty coming back across the shipping channel, waves were hitting each other at an angle and throwing my balance right off thought I was going to drown.

I guess the wink means you know the speed isn't all that accurate it seems delayed by 3-5 sec's as I tried it in my car, and bridges will throw the max speed sky high.

I just read the manual, maps are planned in future updates the program is in beta (testing) stage so far. You can edit the name of the journey when you upload it, gives the option of driving.

SO you got the map because you uploded it to the net?

Sorry you've confused me now, you upload it to the net and Nokia/Google match the GPS position to their map if that's what you're asking. Maps are planned in future to be on the phone as well.

I think so!

SO basically the Nokia with gps tracks where you're going and sends the info via the net so you can look at it later with a map overlayed. Do you have to upload via the phone or can you just use it to store the data for uploading later. And you can do auto upload from the phone too so you can see where other people are?

Would be great for doing a long journey together, if you lose each other you can see where they are. Brilliant!

You would need a laptop to see where the other person was, but yes you can do all that. You can upload via your phone as it stores the data on your phone, 4 hours was 110kb. I only just found out about saving the file and uploading later via my computer. Spent about £2 on uploading my work outs via my phone already :p Just found out O2 have changed my terms and conditions to only allow 100kb free per month, going to give them a mouthful.

Ok, don't have a clue if that'll work. Maybe a laptop then?

Yes, connect the phone to your laptop but would have to be on an online tariff of some sort as kiwinator mentioned the £7.50 offer, as you're downloading quite a lot of info from Google maps.

only thing is, when it loses a satellite connection it finishes the journey automatically :(

You can press pause or have it auto pause when you go so slow might help? I only lose signal for a second occasionally hasn't been a problem for me, using SiRF III. Perhaps you need to buy a better GPS or external antenna? Don't count on this working too well in London

Hum yeah if you can get hold of an external bluetooth GPS that would probably work better, it's worth noting that the later N95s come with A-GPS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS probably because of what you're say is happening with yours.
#25
Similar thing just on the gadget show. £150! Better off with this!
#26
Good pics by the way.

Did you take a decent camera with you? I went out on the kayak the other day and took my mobile phone but it got soaked in sea water and has broken!

Do you have a waterproof bag and if so know any good deals on them?

Will this work in the background? As i would want to use tom tom for navigating and this to view my journey when i get home

Doesn't Tomtom record the journey if you want so you can play it back later. Not sure if the maps would work the same as this?

Otherwise I expect it'd work in the background fine.

Depends if there's enough memory on the phone to run both applications, but I don't think the GPS device can send information to two applications, i.e. phone can only make one bluetooth connection, just the way it's programmed. It's late so not really in the mood for testing it.

Tomtom can't record journey's as far as I'm aware.

I took an old Sony DSC P73, 3 Megapixels camera in a dry bag but risked getting it wet to take photos, my phone and GPS was in an Aquapac pouch I bought for £19 from Bournemouth Canoes, you can take photos underwater with it up to 5m.

Some very good points, thankyou.

I think there is some sort of recording ability with tomtom but I think what you've got is far better anyway.

Will look into the waterproof bags.

Any idea if you can fly through your route using google earth? I've seen that feature on something before.

cool will try those out later. I'm sure you can by loading the GPX file into Google earth, just connect your phone to the computer and copy it over, I would presume.

There's some guy currently doing 110km/h down the M25. That dude is some runner.

lol yes it is silly that it lets you do that speed in running mode, but you can update the record later on-line to say driving. There is no option of driving on the symbian software.
