What decade are you living in then? Tragically spelling and grammar died a horrible death many years ago as they seem to be a lost art, particularly in the online world with only some hints that either still exist.

It's a reoccurring gripe on here and one that will never go away - I think so long as it is understandable (especially to us oldies) it's no big deal

There is nothing worse than

could of
should of
would of

except, maybe, lose/loose?

Lose/loose is definitely a bad one, also to/two/to, they're/their and its/it's although admittedly the latter one is more difficult to grasp.

Don't get me started!

People too lazy to look up the correct use of

they're/there/their
your/you're
to/too
affect/effect
lose/loose

Also, how many times are people going to write 'usefull/carefull/etc' without being bothered to spell-check it.

I don't agree that spelling and grammar died a death: It's just become an acceptable thing on the Internet and people can't be bothered (or worse, are frowned upon) for pointing it out.

There really isn't any excuse for it either. You're on the Internet, so go to dictionary.com (don't Google the word as others may have spelled it incorrectly too!) and look it up.

What I tend to find is that people write in a consistent manner which means those that have poor spelling and grammar on here will also write the same way in e-mails and other forms of communication. While it's generally accepted here and other online areas there may be more professional correspondance where it is frowned upon. If the effort is made to use good spelling and grammar here then it will no doubt help in places where it is someting that matters.

I do see your point and I'm not a grammar nazi as some people are, it's only when a post is genuinely difficult to read due to lack of formatting and punctuation that I bring these aspects up.

I know, I normally do as there's nothing worse than making a spelling or grammar error in this type of thread although at least it wasn't incorrect usage within a proper sentence otherwise I'd really have to hang my head in shame

I may be old fashioned but, if something is well written, I'm far more likely to take an argument seriously.

The original thread that imranmaz quoted was the usual bored attempt by a certain few mod-baiters to liven up a dull evening. It was certainly "entertaining" in terms of both content and style.

This is something I still firmly believe in and it astounds me the amount of businesses that cannot be bothered to get their content proof-read prior to print. In return I can't be bothered to use their services...

Hear, hear.
Virtually everything that is published at my workplace, for both internal and external consumption, contains at least one major and several minor errors. I find it difficult to believe that the standard of performance in our own language is so dire. Yet it seems to be so.
