Yep, they are owned by DSG, who own Pcworld, Dixons etc.
Products come from France if i remeber correctly, and a few people have had problems with returns... but I cant comment on that personally, hopefully other people can comment on that front, but they are legit.

Hey,

Ive used Pixmania before. They do really good deals on camera's etc. I've never had any probs with them or heard of any probs with them :)

As I have said in many similar threads, I would NEVER use pixmania again.

We ordered a video camera for about £400. They took the money, then sent an email saying they wouldnt dispatch until I emailed them a copy of passport and driving license. I said I didnt want to do this (dont feel comfortable with them keeping copies of these with all the cases of identity theft around) and asked for a refund. The order was cancelled and the promised refund never turned up.

After about 6 months of constant phone calls and emails I finally received a refund. Each time I spoke to them they would say "I dont know why it didnt work last time but its definitely gone through this time..." I would wait and nothing would happen.

Other people have said they had similar problems

They're based in France, so if they screw you over, you have zero comeback. I found thi out the hard way when I bought a harddisk off them a few years ago, and they decided against sending out my disk, but decided to keep my money anyway. Nowt I could do about it other than email them and ask for my money back. Suffice to say, they declined.

Well you could take legal action against them, but I imagine they're T&C's are governed by French Law so it makes it much more difficult.

I used them to buy a samsung TV. No problems at all, and it was delivered by Currys I think. Happy with the service and good at replying to my emails when I had an issue with delivery dates.

Sister ordered a Samsung 42" Plasma & Samsung DVD player with USB about 6 weeks ago, TV turned up fine within 3 days (as above delivered by Currys), DVD turned up 9 days later with a European plug & no adapter, searched on the net to call them & if you can find a working customer services phone number from their site then you are a better man/lady than me, i read that if you contact them they will send you a UK adapter for free, but as we couldnt contact them then she had to buy one from Maplins for £4.00, no biggie but a bit p'd off that, plus customer services number was a nightmare, wouldnt use again myself as i dont feel happy using a European plug with an adapter for some reason, and the lack of contact details is worrying,

I've heard several issues about them not honouring warranties property due to them being based in France - don't know if this has changed recently.

Bought a washing machine from them. Received it exactly when they said it would arrive and was delivered by Currys. Same machine on Currys website was about £75 more!

I think if you are going to buy a big item like a TV then you are fine, but a small appliance that has a fixed socket like a DVD or Kettle etc you are going to get a European Socket, what are you looking to buy from them?

That's the problem. I could take legal action, but it'd require learning French and moving there. They're practically untouchable.

Well a more practicable approach would mean instructing a French lawyer to take action on your behalf.... IIRC French consumer law offers as much if not more protection than the SOGA....its a throw back to the Napoleonic days...

Its just whether the cost involved is worth it.

I ordered a camera from them once and had some problems. They were over 2 weeks late delivering and when they did (after lots of complaining) the delivery guy (from DHL) just left it on my doorstep while I was out. This may be OK if your front door is out of the way and you live in a quiet area (not getting a signature aside) but my front door happened to be on a busy road with the public path running right in front of my door in a fairly dodgy area, so if it wasn't for my neighbour walking by and picking it up for me then someone would have had themselves a free camera. I was annoyed so after even more complaining pixmania agreed to pick it up (it was within the 7 days of receiving it anyway). I then found it £20 cheaper at a company based in the UK so at least I saved some money for my troubles >_<

This was some time ago so they may have improved their customer service since then and to be fair, leaving it on the doorstep was the fault of DHL's delivery guy but I'm still put off from using pixmania after all that hassle and the late dispatch.
