have a read through this thread about this camera. It has excellent picture quality due to its exr function and is especially good in low light.

I would consider the Fuji Finepix F72EXR aswell.

I have a canon A1100 and am very pleased with it , cheaper aswell :)
i am in same predicament really but have decided its not. been doing so much research into cameras over the past week. Seems that EXR is actually a brilliant feature to have that no others do. The tz7 has hd recording and does take good pics and an extra 2x optical zoom but in my opinion it is not worth the extra 85.
I was going to settle for the TZ6 cos i thought i wouldn't need the HD recording that is on the TZ7 anyway, then I saw the sammy with HD recording for a tenner less than the TZ6 and changed my mind!

I'm guessing after the limited research i have done tonight that the EXR is good for low light conditions, what is the recording like on the fuji?

i believe it is just average....typical vga quality i think. HD video does give added detail but if you want something to take films rather than get good picture quality, you are better off getting a dedicated camcorder. I have read many review (albeit mixed) that the the f72 takes better quality pics than tx6....

personally if your dropping down from a dslr you should try to get the best compact on the market and imo its the tz7 and also you have to think of the resale value the tz7 will hold it a lot more than your counterparts

fair point actually, the tz5 is still selling for a fair bit and the tz7 is currently one of the best compact cameras (not necessarily THE best) but definately a contender
