And aluminum

We say it differently because we wanted the element to have an ium on the end. Americans are the ones who get that one right.

Funny you should say that, when I went to America u got off the plane, got luggage and was going to get the hire car but really needed to smoke, so I asked the nearest person (who happened to be a 7 foot scary looking copper) where "the nearest place to have a fag" was, he looked very alarmed until I explained :)

Also, I never understand 'faucet' instead of tap

I prefer the term movies to films as you may have noticed by some of my posts. Chrome's spell checker doesn't like movie though...

when in the states you have to stick to the sidewalk, take a stroll across the freeway and you'll get a citation for jaywalkin'. youll be glad you've got your diaper on when that trooper is kickin' your butt.

They say I couldn't care less

No I think they say "I could care less", which is nonsense as the saying that we use "I couldn't care less", means you don't care about this topic/item etc... as much as it is possible not to care for something.

Saying I could care less implies that they have some interest in the topic, which may be true but is not how the saying is used lol

I'm actually interested in learning why in the UK, we do not pronounce 'Leicester' as 'Lie-cest-er' and Scarborough as 'Scar-bor-o'.

I suspect Leicester is pronounced the way it is because King Leir founded the city (as a fortified town) with the name Kaerleir ("Leir's chester" or Legra/Ligora-ceaster in Anglo-Saxon). Over the years it became "Leir's cester" & was shortened again to the name it has today (but with the same pronunciation).

Similarly, the Danes founded Scarborough. A "burgh" in Danish means a fortified settlement.
