You ever thought that the lecturers don't live within 10 min walk like most students do?

Then the lecturers should set off earlier or make arrangements to be closer to work the night before. It's not as if this cold spell was unexpected.

I live 2 hours from uni and was half way there before being told uni's closed for the day. Like I said, there's barely any snow anyways.

Doubt the uni will be willing to pay for the staff to stay closer IN CASE it rains its uni not a blinking hospital about to save a lifes!

Most of the time the schools dont open in case a pupil falls in the snow and sue's them! My daughter was playing in the playground while waiting for her cousins to finish school and they were told by the headmistress to stop as they might fall and get sued!!

Lots of snow in central london.

If anyone lives outside of london in kent its impossible to get into london today, theres no trains and the roads are sooo bad. Also are you telling me that you would pay for a hotel out of your own pocket when let be honest most students wont turn up, and they may only have one lecture all day to teach.

TBH the southerners need to man up and I am one of them. It' rediculous about 2 inch here and there are kids off school playing in the road!

The teachers managed to get in, everyone has gone to work as normal,, it's a feeble attempt by some to get the day off I tell ya. Even a John Lewis lorry got to my house this morning at 7 and you have kids off school, even though they are open pfffft.

The road I live is usually quite busy, yet no cars (or buses) to be seen. Its probably down to the 18" of snow and no gritters. Just a hunch really.... I was "man enough" to go out in it yesterday, but with no trains, unable to get to work. Same again today.

Both my kids schools are shut. I'm aware that at least one teacher hasn't managed to get home since Tuesday. I'm guessing she loves it there so much!

Uni sucks ! stay at home with your rubbish hair cuts and battered clothes

The government either need to spend millions more keeping the roads and railways going in this weather or people need to relax a bit about missing a couple of days work etc.

The real issue is with emergency and essential services that need to be there regardless.

I figured since you mentioned "Southerners", you were referring to more than just the people living in your road!

Most stupid thing I have heard about the snow so far. Of course all the uni staff (you know that it needs more than just the lecturers to turn up to open the uni right?) should stay in hotels every night in case of heavy snow. Chill out and get down the pub, plenty of other days for lectures

We have had about 8" of snow since last Sunday and Uni's been open everyday this week, been about 75% in each lecture even people who live far away just left earlier and took longer to get there. Southeners are so soft and pathetic.

Il'd prefer to be southern and pathetic than being northern.

I've just been nagged about laying on the settee on my laptop! - Though I have just put 6 hanging thingies with nuts, seeds and fat balls for the birdies. And now she's gone out shopping!
