02 CONTRACT... I'M CONFUSED HAS THIS HAPPENED TO YOU?

I've just rang o2 as i'm in the last month of my contract to say the usual i wanna cancel as i've seen a better deal elsewhere! So they said there bit etc...... Told them i could get a nokia n95 8gb with unlimted texs and so many minutes with vodaphone for 15 pound a month. So they then said they could match the deal but could not offer me the phone yet as they had none in stock and to ring back for it in a few weeks, The lady said but in the meantime i could go on the simplicty tarrif (1000 texs 400mins £15 a month)that was a rolling 30 day contract which in fairness is a good deal but that still leaves me with my phone thats 18months old! So i took that for now as i would be saving myself 5 pound a month. Then i went on the o2 website and surprise surprise they had the said phone in stock! I then rang back and spoke to a different woman and explained the story she said yes shops had them in stock but they didn't...! Same company though i thought? The woman then said wait till the end of august as the nokia n96 is coming out! At this point i did say a few words and bless her i know its not her fault as she has been told what to say etc..! So what i'm getting at is o2 have got a scam going that they are clearly trying to push exsisting customers onto this simplicty tarrif so they don't have to give out phones for free while keeping you as a customer and are keeping phones back for people who are willing to pay for a upgrade or new customers who again are paying for phones... So i have came away from this all feeling very confused and with no new phone has people got any ideas or views on this be nice to see if this has happened to others or what i could or should have done different..!

I personally would have stayed on current contract rather than swapping over to simplicity for a month.

to be expected customer service is pants, I didn't even get past the security questions, they asked so many and seemed to be looking for set answers e.g. how much credit is currently on my phone, they lost out on an £80 upgrade, i went with phones4u online they were the fastest and cheapest on PAYG, not sure about contract O2 have a good network and nice features it's just getting past the terrible customer service, maybe try your local O2 shop or carphone warehouse

Yeah i thought that afterwards when guess what its too late!

'over the phone' and online are seperate, online deals are generally better so order from there if that is the case for you

can you not ring them back and say you changed your mind and you'd like to wait until the n96 comes out before you renew your contract? I would have thought you'd be able to do that.
#6
The reason being is that I understand O2 have different stocks for various areas so Stores, Online and over the phone have different allocations so one may sell out but the others may have not. Im assuming with you ringing disconnection it may be a popular phone for customers so they have used their allocation.

Try going in to your local O2 shop and getting an upgrade through them, but you will only have a choice of standard tariffs available no price matching.

And I would not wait for N96, as even though you told end of August I understand O2 will not be doing this phone until late in the year if at all.
#7
yeah the lady did say there is a 14 day cooling off period so i might get back on my old tarrif for now think it will and can hold better bargaining tool for myself...
#8
right i did ring back to change back to my old tarriff and another lady told me i was 10 pound a month simplicty tariff and for that i get 1000 texs and 400mins and unimted o2 to o2 calls. Still debated about phone and she admitted that they did have the said phone in stock but was for only higher tarriffs, so i thought about it and thought well for 10 a month i cant really go wrong for what i get......... so will sit it out for a bit and see what happens... thanks for comments and advice folks
#9
Just for bargaining purposes, where did you find the N95 on contract with Vodafone for £15 a month?
Could come in handy when i threaten to leave them too.

Thanks!

Is this new tarriff that you are on only a 30 day rolling contract? If it is, I reckon thats a right bargain
#11
All the mobile companies do this, the high street shop, the online shop and the over the phone deals are all separate, in some fractured stupid mess in which they just annoy the hell of everyone. Atleast with MCDonalds a BigMac is a BigMac wherever you go in the world, one corporate idea which they do have right.

Shouldn't be allowed IMO, either they are O2 or they aren't.
#12
in all fairness, you are not locked in to a contract and it's cheaper every month so they've done you a favour if they haven't got stock. Online stock and 'over the phone' stock is always seperate. It's like going from one store to another.

Plus, you might as well wait 1 month for the N96!!
#13
Ahh you made a huge mistake. You should of stayed with O2 with your current contract, at lease like that you can bargin with them!

yes they have classed it as a upgrade and been sent a e-mail to say its £10 for 6 months then goes to £15 and yes i'm on a rolling 30 day contract..

That's rubbish. They have your complete history on file. You don't need to bargain with them on the contract you are on?? Why would it matter? The only bargaining chip you have is seeing a deal elewhere that is good.

They did the OP a favour for a month. I'm an 02 select customer, and have been for 9 years. They always put me on a sim only type tarriff after my 9 month period.... And, I can assure you I get a good deal when I start my next new contract each time

I am still with o2 and yes i thought i had made a mistake but then i thought how have i.......... How can you bargin with someone who hasn't got the phones to bargain with you.......
So i thought would i perfer to upgrade to a phone that i don't want and a contract of £20 maybe more a month for 12/18 months contract or stick with phone i've got (SEw880i )and go on a rolling 30 day contract for £10 a month. Think the second option is the better one! But hey different strokes for different folks

Thanks for that bazzaric think i've been with them for at least five years now...... So what would you recommend i do next....?

You need to tell them first of all you want to be considered as an 02 select customer due to long service, etc. Then you need to get them to look over your contract for the last few years and see based on that, what they 'recommend'. They will tell you your style of contract (texts, calls, web, etc). Go look around and get back to them with something you have seen. Tell them you want the same but on a 12 month contract, or £5 less a month, etc. They don't like greedy people, but do like to think they are doing you a favour!

I was on a £40 per month contract for unlimited web, text and minutes cross network, with a Nokia E90 Communicator. But this time they have put me on a Simplicity with 1200 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited data for £30. It's just for a month until they see about getting me the new O2 'XDA' Diamond (the HTC Touch Diamond elsewhere). Then I will be on a £35 a month contract with the same as the simplicity contract, but with a free phone, and, most importantly for me, a 12 month contract

The biggest tip I ever give is to remember the name of the person you are speaking to. And, if you find somebody you like, use the name as the contact person from then on. If they happen to leave, I always say, they were really great and helpful. The next sales person always tries to top them ;o)

Basically, an 02 select customer gets to upgrade 3 months before the end of their contract (so I only ever have 9 month contract then 1 month simplicity), and they have their own team to deal with queries, etc. I get through instantly on 402 from my phone, and it's a freephone number from elsewhere. I think we get extra 'perks' too, but I haven't really bothered too much about that.

Don't get me wrong, 02 are as bad as the rest of them though!

When doing the old 'i have found this cheaper' bit, you need to be prepared to LOSE your contract. And go through with your promises. This will get you in the right frame of mind for a battle.

Remember, when asking to cancel, they put you through to the retentions dept. But you need to be extremely confident. State that a certain company has offered you a phone, better minutes and texts, and a free laptop.

A colleague of mine did the following very well, and was offered a free upgrade, and a £400 credit to purchase said laptop.

But, problem you have is you are dealing with customer service reps who sometimes have a chip on their shoulder. If there retention rate is good, they will usually tell you to get stuffed. If they are having a shocking day, they will offer you the earth. If you not happy with the first offer, hang up and try another rep!

Good luck with this one, but I think you have a get out clause, so get out of the shitplicity contract thingy.

Thanks but surley the old hang up and try again would not work as they will log on your account details when you phoned and what for.....! and as i've said before what is so wrong with the simplicty deal.... £10 a month come on thats a cheap monthly tarrif for what i'm getting!
#24
Yes they log your issue, but a different person always answers. Come on, be honest now, do they read the logs? - U usually have to go through it all with each staff member!

Also, Im not saying there is anything wrong with the Simplicity. But they took you from a powerful contract, where you have stuck with them for 12 months plus, and put you on a small time sim card only deal. Sim card only gives you no upgrade power. That is whats wrong with it.

Orange definitely read the logs, hung up on retentions before as they werent offering me anything decent. Then called back and they new exactly what had been offered before:oops:. Had to lie and tell them i couldn't hear the other person properly
#26
Ask for your PAC number and wait for Retentions Dept to ring in a few days, they have alot of bargaining power.

This wasnt the case with my colleague. They offered even less the second time lol!

As said above, ask for the code and wait for the call, if they dont do the work there and then

As i've said before even with my old contract there was still no bargaining power as they will not give me the phone i wanted... maybe by asking this and that they might but then they might not and would lose contract all together.
I think bazzaric say's it all as he is the one with o2 and to be honest as i'm getting older phones aren't really a issue to me anymore( just thought i'd see what i could get) i'd rather pay as less a month as possible, got a great digtal camera when i need one and a ipod for my music, so i think i'm gonna use my phone for calls and tex's:whistling:

yer but if you were just testing the water, im not surprised you got nothing in return.

You can get a contract, and port your number, with amazing offers these days, everyone wants your money. Get back on to o2, as for the porting code. when they say why, tell them you have been offered everything. See what happens then. So what if you lose the contract. Theres plenty more where that came from!
#30
Funny have you seen all the nokia n95 8gb refurb's been brought from o2 funny they had no stock yesterday.......
#31
http://www.correctpunctuation.co.uk/

EDIT: If you didn't want that exact phone, you could have asked for another? Or agreed to the contract, and then phoned up and canceled it within the 14-day cooling off period, and repeated until the phone 'came into stock'?

wtf?

Is this really ness?
#33
looks like i started a trend putting this on the other day, just need to try and get a refurb phone now and think i'll stay on my £10 a month deal.
#34
right my contract was up last week well into my finally month and phoned up to renew my contract which didn't go to well and i went on simplicty deal woman said for 15 pound a month she would give me 1000 texs and 400 mins and o2 to o2 unlimted calls and for first 6 months it would be only a tenner! so i agreed to it for the time been. Then the link came up about the refurb phones.... So yesterday i had to ring o2 as i had a letter stating my new contract which said for 15 pound a month i only had 200 mins and 400 texs, So rang up and the woman said there was nothing in my notes about the deal the woman had offered me, I thought the lying......... So the woman said she could do me 1000 texs and 600 mins for 20 a month and would knock a fiver off making it 15 so i have agreed to that lets still what the letter says when it comes....? But while i was there i gave into temptation and asked about refurb phones etc....... She told me no nokia n95s 8gb left but had original n95, samsung sou,l nokia 6500 slide and a viewty for 69.99 each so despite what i've said in other links( bout not wanting a new phone) the devil on my shoulder made me order one(well my phone is 18months old, well that was my excuse to the mrs) so last night at five o clock i ordered a samsung soul at quarter to 3 it was delivered today, i got just the phone and the charger but phone is in excellent condition i.e brand new and have checked the phone and everything is working fine, so not bad all in all i'm happy
