02 Credit Check

I went in 2 an 02 store today to get a credit check on an iphone 3gs 35 a month, i got declined, I've just thought bout what happened in the store though...

1) They never asked me how long i have lived at my address..
2) They never even asked me if I was employed/unemployed...

Is this standard procedure in 02? Every other credit agreement i've had they need to know therese things.
I've never been declined before for credit and I have had loans, credit cards, mobile contracts - all paid off. I have a mortgage at the mo could this affect my credit score?

Thanks in advance for any help

I dont think they need to know how long you lived at your address etc....credit check shows all that. You could dispute it, possibly ask them what credit reference agency they use. A mortgage if not in arrears wont affect your credit rating - prob the opposite. You build a credit rating by getting things on credit

Things like that are usually easier to pass online, in my experience.

I got asked what my employement status is( student ) and how long ive lived at my address.
Got my 3GS with a £100 deposit, refundable in 3 mths.

I believe they use Equifax for Pay monthly and Experian for Business.

Whilst that's true, having too much credit and too many credit cards will have a negative affect. As will having lots of credit checks being carried out.

You should be ok. If you had more than 3 accounts with them, they would decline. Happened to me. Bit silly really, as I was would be porting the number over from a Simplicity PAYG monthly... but its an automated system.

They fact you have one account, is in your favour.

They took very little info from me, I believe they get all your previous address details from the bank when they check your debit card.

Perhaps someone can clarify that

Well because im a student i have a temporary address and my folks house is my permanent address, im back at my folks now, so im going to change my address at my bank back to my permanent address now so when they check hopefully o2 will only see my permanent address when they check... im not being dishonest its just being a student ive lived at 3 different blocks (houses) over the past 3 years but the same overall address has remained the same. I live in an student halls kind of place and im worried that having lived in 3 different blocks will over complicate matters if any of that makes sense lol

They'll still ask for your debit card (a girl that was there today was upgrading and she needed her debit card) they do a whole new credit check on you.

I can't see that being a problem at all, I had about 20 addresses in one year (I was a man in demand) and I never had a problem getting credit.

Well all i can do is try lol, hopefully they will see that my address has stayed the same over the 3 years just my apartment number and block name has changed each year, ive never been turned down for anything before so fingers crossed, and i have also checked my credit report and the address is my mums address. Who knows what they are really looking for though, ill just cross my fingers in my pockets while their processing my application lol
