Hello All,

I am setting up an Hosting Company. I am using an 0800 number for all customer service/technical support/sales questions :)

Can I ask:

1) If there was a company that offers exactly the same prices as another but one of the company has 0800 and the other has 0870 what would you go with? The company with 0800 number or 0870?

2) Would you call a company more trustworthy if they provided an national number? e.g 0800, 0870 etc etc instead of 0208?

Thanks All!

All depends on their reputation.

As above, Its reputation I base things on, It could be the cheapest price and the poorest service so I wouldn't use it..

If your asking my opinion on the numbers, A free phone number is always more appealing that one that charges the national rate.

When i did a hosting company I used to give a month free or a 30day money back guarentee so people could decide weather to use my service.

If I had a choice, and all things being equal, I would use the 0800 company, I always avoid the 0870 scam outfits when possible.

If the 2 companies are fairly equal, and it was advertised that one had an 0800 number then I would probably go with that company (although we have just gone with virgin internet and now they have changed the d*mn number now!)

Why not have the 0800 number, then also give the 0208 number for mobile users (free minutes)...

Would obviously prefer the 0800 number all things being the same. Quite happy to use 020 number with free minutes but might as well use 0800 on landline instead. Both would be good but 99% of people happier with 0800!

Really annoys me when I have to phone an 0870 number because the company have made a mistake. I always phone the 0800 number first and kick up a fuss as to why I should have to pay for a 30+ minute call to correct their mistake! Just got £5 back off Tesco credit card for having to phone twice becasue of a mistake they had made. Only 10 minute calls each time and they were free on my free o2 contract but gave the manager 5 minutes stick until he gave in. Didn't think I was going to get anywhere, wasn't asking for any money, just for them to fix their mistake!

If there was a freetrial / money back guarenteed and an 0800 number even if the mbg was only 5 days i'd choose your company because i know in them 5 days i can test the stability etc.
