"Your speed won't be moderated unless you're in the top 3% of users (uploaders and downloaders). "In some cases the top 3% of uploaders and downloaders were using as much as 3GB, just during peak times. That's around 750 music tracks in the space of a few hours"

Sounds like you are in their top 3% of users!

who's better?

no-one beats them for speed/value from what I have seen. Cable is simply the best.

So reading this... if your in the top 3% DURING peak times your connection will be limited?

Undergoing STM trials are reported to trigger between 11am and 9pm. This also means that it is possible to triiger more than once as can be see by some complaints of this happening on the internal support groups.

I have had a phone call from Virgin Media technical support to confirmed that trials for new STM rules in some areas may be triggering outside of peak hours. Any Support agents reporting bugs in STM are wrong.

However, other sources are reporting that there is a rare bug in the Cisco IOS that is causing the out of hours triggering. The bug is fixed in a new version of Cisco IOS but that has yet to be deployed.

lol I notice on the virgin media website you can upgrade your connection but not downgrade

This doesn't seem to be the case at all times, on a weekend my connection is throttled regardless and seems to have been the case for a while now. also, when getting home and using the connection on some evenings I find it throttled already...but I haven't used my connection at all that day so it's not possible that I've downloaded over 3gb.

My connection is always throttled and so is my friends connection. They must be getting some serious payback from all the downloading we've ever done.

Speed? They claim to be the fasted service in the UK and have been picked up bt Ofcom for this false advertising. They are not the fastest - as there are 24Mb services out there.

My connection doesnt top the 20Mb fastest advertsised by Virgin (its only a meagre 16Mb), but I do know I get full throughput 24/7 and dont ever have to suffer with throttleling or worry about caps. I could never recommend a service that employs throttleing. Why say 20Mb - when they might give you 512Kb?
