Good Luck - Is there a reason why you are upgrading?
#2
I did this a few weeks ago without a hitch on three computers.

Except ...... only my wife's one complained. SP3 switched off the audio drivers. I could not fix them or reinstall them. As soon as I uninstalled SP3 everything went back to normal.

If you have any problems, and uninstall SP3, you will be prompted to install it again next time your PC updates. Choose Custom install and switch off the SP3 update.

MY PC TOLD ME TOO

Stand up to your computer Raptor and say NO to SP3  As one of the previous posters stated use the custom install for updates.

WHY SO MANY COMPUTERS?

My main PC and laptop. My wife's laptop and one from her school. I have an IBM laptop that someone gave me, but I only use it to update it, it has one of those silly red mouse button things in the middle of the keyboard.

I installed it last week, afterwards my pc would not boot, kept getting the blue screen, even if I tried to boot in safe mode.
Had to remove sp3 through the recovery console in the end.

Do you know how to switch off this update for the future? Otherwise it will keep trying to install?

I don't see a difference after the SP3 update.

updated by boot camp XP.... no difference?! Still rubbish!

I'm surprised you say XP is rubbish. By what benchmark are you stating this? I have found XP to be reliable and stable, far better than Win98 and Win2000, and for now I have no intention of going over to Vista until it is stable. Are you a Mac user? If so, I cannot comment as I have not used one for years.

No, I hadn't considered that. Is there a simple way to turn it off?

Next time Windows tells you that an update is ready to be installed, click Custom instead of Install. Take the tick out of Service Pack 3, then complete the instalation. It wont bother you again.

You can do the same thing in advance by going to the update site, click the Custom rather than Express, then do as above.
