THE HALL WAS FULL.

IM NOT ONE FOR MAKING WAVES BUT ------I MIGHT

Thats really tight bet you were gutted :x
#15
Then what was the issue? The hall was full and you would have likely caused a hazard on a motability scooter. Next time I would call the school ahead of the event and state your requirements. Schools have invested millions in disabled access in the last 5 to 10 years and it is not wasted; the head was simply using common sense and basic health and safety considerations.
#16
actually check with the school to see if they have disabled access and if not complain to county hall about t he lack of access

THE HALL FEEDS 1200 KIDS AT DINNER
THERE WERE 22 PARENTS AND TEACHERS IN AND ALL THE KIDS WERE ON THE STAGE

The hall does not feed 1200 kids in one sitting. If that is the case then you should have calmly said "I don't believe it is, what is the problem?" and then it either would have been explained to you or it would have been reconsidered. Not a single head that I know would do that, there is too much to lose.

ask school who the governors are then and also complain to county hall or your local authority as there was obviously plenty of room and also ask head to clarify reason for refusal of entry.

So what did the head actually say and what did you say back? It seems ridiculous if there were only 22 adults in the hall and the kids were all on the stage.
Tokyo Drift - yes please, post a vid!!
Some weeks are designated by FATE as being very trying indeed, not to mention costly. :x

That doesn't seem right to me. What on earth was the head thinking? I think that a letter to the local eduction authority, copied to the head and the governors is in order, so that you can have the same access as other parents in the future and clarify exactly how that can be achieved.
Did you literally have to wait outside in the cold??

Yes, but my points stand; the head of a 1200 pupil school would not have done it without a fairly decent and legitimate reason - of which there are many. They are required to be very well versed with the DDA, health and safety regulations and basic politeness. It is likely to be a more complex issue than is provided here or a basic misunderstanding.

Personally if I was disabled I would have questioned the decision and ensured the reasons for it were legitimate (if I had any reason to doubt them). If I was not happy, I would be on the phone to the Head in the morning expecting a full explanation and if one was not provided, request the contact details of the Chair of the Governers. That way a duly made review of what happened would be complete.

As I said however, no Head I know would be that silly as to open themselves up to (potentially gross) negligence; especially not a head of such a large school. Although I have sympathy that the event was missed, I find the limited information given and the context a little difficult to believe.

Can you see how your first post was rather agressive in making assumptions?
The tone and content of your second is more measured and helpful, although I feel you have made some statements which I have highlighted in bold which may be open to discussion. As you can see my response was not very different to your second excepting that I believed raptorcig's version of the events.

The remark was relevant against the comment which was still there. I don't agree I was agressive, just disagreeing. It is also not open to discussion whether or not the heads "I know" would do this sort of thing; they wouldn't. I would never take one side of information and take it as fact, especially if it sounds a little unlikely.

RIGHT ON OUR FIRST MEETING AT THE SCHOOL WHY WAS IT OK FOR HIM TO LET ME IN TO THE SAME ROOM WITH THE SAME PEOPLE AND HE EVEN OPEND THE DISABLED DOOR FOR ME LAST TIME,EXPLAIN THAT

How do you expect me to explain that, I was not there? However, I can presume that there was a reason which meant the Head refused you access this time since he did not refuse it last night. Regardless, I would have simply questionned the Head at the time and explained it was not an issue previously when you came and what is different on this occasion. Maybe I am missing something but it seems you just accpeted what was said and waited outside?

not that you were beng agressive. I have highlighted in red the relevant assumptions. I would say that anyone in the world can make a mistake and find it unlikely that the heads of your personal acquaintance are infallible.

You are you and you are clearly more than capable of questioning and explaining and making presumptions. Others are less confident perhaps or the situatioin evolved rapidly???

Raptor - I think what happened today at your little'un's school, based on what you say was truly diabolical.:x:x

And I'm not a 'yes man' by the way.

To put it blunt, the headteacher needs a good kicking. However, you have to rise above these ill-informed jobsworths & as you know, keep ahead of them.

I would sincerely encourage you to take this further as per Chesso's advice. if the headteacher was stressed, mistaken, whatever, that's no excuse. It was no examlpe to set to his pupils & above all, isn't that sort of discrimination immoral & illegal?

Just say you being there in your chair was a health & safety risk, (and I'm not saying it was or wasn't cos I wasnt there either) then these days that is for the school to cater for. It was only a year or 2 ago that all businesses had to install ramps etc by law for disabled access & I am sure that this would apply to schools as well.

I would definitely take it further, but chill out a bit at the same time.

A chomp ain't a true chomp when yer angry!!!

Col.
