You are right but you have to do it by having/getting a tesco credit card. It's interest free for 6 months, no deposit too.

how about Marshall Ward?

I know people **** them off for using vouchers that they are not entitled to use and then Shop direct group claiming the money back.

However...... there is buy now pay July 2011on anything over £50 using code XV230, this has to be better than using Brighthouse surely?

Just make weekly payments into the account making sure you have enough money to pay in full in July 2011.

Don't use Brighthouse! You'll end up paying at least twice the price of the TV (compared to Currys/Amazon etc).

did it make you smile?

Yes it was nice.

Hope you are ok.

Brighthouse are a utter nightmare and wouldn't be legal in many EU countries due to their extortionate interest rates.

I bet she can get a CC, if she is very organised and prompt I suggest she get a a 0% cc and pay it off without that 0% period, if she isn't organised then I'd order it for her then once activated manage the card myself, assuming of course you are willing to go that far.

Order on CC, cut up the cc once done, ensure minimum payments are met, try and pay it off within the 0% period, done.

Dude, don't use Brighthouse. The first TV I look at on that site, a Phillips 40" LED 100Hz 1080p set, sells for £2800 at Brighthouse, compared to £1050 at Pixmania. Granted Pixmania are a dodgy dodgy bunch of Frenchies who might just steal your cash and not give you your telly, as they have in the past with people, but Brighthouse also might ask Damage Protection insurance on top of that £2800, likely bringing the exact same TV to three times the going rate. That's some seriously savage buttrape.

You've gotta go with the law of expenditure. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. If your mum can't afford a big-screen TV, she'd be a fool to pay three times the going rate for an LCD, when a CRT will cost her about £50.

If your mum-in-law is fed up renting, but is retired and can't get a credit card to take advantage of 0% interest or "buy now, pay later" deals, it makes no real sense to me for her get involved with credit now. It's relatively easy to get into debt, but much harder to get out of it.

If you or anyone else in the family can't help her out, I suggest she gets a cheap CRT now that she can afford and then puts money by each week or month until she can afford the tv she really wants. What she watches won't be any more interesting just because she's watching it on a bigger screen that she couldn't afford to pay for up front. :)

Lots of large tvs (may not be plasma/lcd) are advertised in freecycle.
