1080p is bettergoogle will tell you more.

ok, i googled it vs 1080i but all i got wat its 'theoretically' better and then went into some nonsense i dont understand on how its displayed differently.

But it was correct in saying tvs with 1080p are more expensive because they're better?

1080p tv's are FULL HD are are more expensive.

1080i and p are the same when viewing still images.

But progressive scan is better at displaying moving images compared to interlaced.

i=interlaced a method of reducing bandwidth requirements by drawing "alternate" lines on screen
so 1st movie frame will consist of lines1,3,5 etc of picture (really poor for stills, though clever software can overcome this) and the second frame will be lines 2,4,6 etc, some peoples eyes will pick this up and appear to make the screen judder or flicker

p=progressive scan, where the full picture is drawn for each frame of the movie, much more on screen at anyone time but more demanding of hardware if done correctly looks fantastic

To be honest the average user won't be able to tell a difference. Especially if its a smaller screen size. I reckon most people won't find it worth the extra money. 1080 is much better than 720 though!

If we were talking 720p v 1080i id say theres no difference and choose the 720p but as ive never seen a true 1080p input i cant say

Not if your screen is bigger than 37". The 1080 really does make a difference over that sort of size.

on my tv 1080i is far sharper than 720p, its not 1080p so i couldnt comment on that.

all depends how close you watch from. no difference on a 50" screen if over 10 foot away.

Actually the arguments about which is better are a bit nonsensical because they are just methods for dealing with higher resolution broadcasts and it is the implementation of these standards that define which is better.
A poorly implemented 1080p picture can be a lot worse that a well implemented 1080i and as i've said many times its all down to what your eyes can see anyway ask mr magoo over there lol
