Land at Paphos on the 25th of May late afty and I've yet to book transfers! There are 9 adults, 4 kids and about 6 bags.. ideally need a minibus or small van. I have read it takes about 45-60 mins getting to where we're going from the airport ..

Can anybody recommend a cheap company who can provide this service? Wouldn't mind hiring a minibus or better still, would prefer a taxi type service.

I googled but I guess a lot ot the pricier companies show up who cahrge over priced fares and not the more economical local small firms.. any advice/ hints and tips appreciated.

Please suggest away

Somehow, i think the fact that he is going away on the 25th of May, and todays date is the 8th of May makes your suggestion a bit pointless.

Your best bet is to google all the taxi/minibus firms you can - then type a generic email and cut and paste it to all of them - asking for a price. Someone will come back to you.

We Greeks soon pay attention when there is money to be made.

I have used this website in the past twice for Tunisia and it was very cheap and basically the same coach that picks up travellers on charter flights!!

definitely hire vehicles rather than using a taxi as that area around polis / latchi is very quiet and spread out. Argaka isnt worth paying a visit to as nothing there at all. Its very hilly too and little in the way of public transport / taxis.

email your hotel? ask them do they have a transfer service? or can they recommend a local one and arrange?

We're staying in a villa in argaka- wanted the peace and quiet.. The people we booked from sent us links for cars but they're the airport taxis and cost a bomb... :(
#9
Rizo- tranfers4u website just quoted me £588 one way!!

Let me make a couple of calls!!

I think that with 13 people + bags you will need a couple of minibuses. I often find a2btransfers provide a reasonable transfer in the various med resorts. Top tip if going to a private villa is to get directions and a map from the owners so that that you can give it to the driver, also leave a copy with him for the pickup driver(if you are lucky he will actually pass it on).

even so, you will still need transport in argaka. its a tiny village with nothing there so unless you plan to stock up with food for the duration and not do anything except sit around a pool, you are gonna be a bit stuck. We drove up there last year from latchi and turned around within 5 minutes of getting there.

maybe just get 1 large car for the week then and two taxis each way.

Csi, I think you've a good point, will be looking at hirecars now as feel they'd be better value than just a transfer vehicle. Need to taste some culture when there so will need the wheels to go out and abt..

And the search continues...

Is Cyprus quite strict with no. Of ppl in a car - thinking if we have five ppl to car and then there r three kids that are very young(on lap perhaps??) ? So 2 cars would suffice for the stay ( we'd sort sommat out abt getting from a/port to villa- maybe two journeys?)

Resorthoppa I tend to find the cheapest. They are quoting £322.00 return and 13% Quidco. :)

Thanks all for the advice/ hints and tips. I have thought it through and have been searching for a good deal this past week.

Ended up with 3 hire cars (2 big 1.8l and one medium 1.6L) for £150each for the 8days (smaller one was £140) and thats including EVERYTHING (bar petrol) and we'll be picking them up from the airport and dropping them back there when we've done with them.

Taxi one way from the airport to the villa was costing £70 alone..

Happy with the resut, cheers all.

Make sure you collect them full of petrol and return them full of petrol - otherwise you WILL get stung for the petrol at an extortionate rate!

Enjoy!

be very careful booking car hire as most of them in Europe only have collision damage waiver and not excess damage waiver so in most cases you are liable to pay the first part of any claim (up to £5000 in the event of an accident).

easycar are the worst by far!

Will ask him abt the petrol thing as from what I've read , I understood that you take the car full of petrol and give it back empty(!) insurance includes everything - the guy I have booked with seems a lovely fella so I'm hopeful that the experience is not problematic.. Will report back on my return.

are you sure insurance includes EDW as most do not? Collision damage waiver isnt the same thing yet they still advertise INSURANCE INCLUDED.

which car hire firm did you book with?

*UPDATE*

I'd recommend Easy Rent a Cars 100x's over to anyone looking to rent a car the 'easy' way. God, it was the most pleasant experience, so hassle free- problem free- and the service didn't disappoint.

i spoke to george (owner) a few times on the phone and emailed him too- to which he replied quite swiftly. In the end, he gave us the best quotes that included EVERYTHING- got for about £440, a nissan note, a primera- and a third bigger car too (toyota?!)- cant remember. The cars were waiting for us at Pafos airport, tank filled to halfway- all we did was obtain the keys and drive off. No deposit paid. Blimey, he's trusting(!) returned to Pafos (office) on the 3rd day of hte stay and paid in GBP.

PETROL was extra. the nissan note- when filled from the petrol pump was £15 for half tank.. but the firm took £30 for each car (so £90 extra- but i didnt know abt this beforehand- do all car hire firms do this?!). We also paid for airport parking which was a measly 3euros so not bad at all- unlike rip-off heathrow/ gatwick parking. george is a fab guy, really lovely.

SOOO much easier and better than getting a cab.

Argaka was beautiful- orange/lemon groves everywhere.so peaceful and serene with fab views for every balcony. deffo needed a car as nearest place to shop was latchi / polis (10mins away) - maybe would stay in the latter areas if i was to go again...

snorkelling - highly recommended. we hired boats from latchi watersports (brit owned) and got a luxury boat and a smaller boat for £240 for the whole day (petrol extra) bargainned prices down as the bigger boat was nearly £300+petrol alone.

Glad you had a good time. We love Latchi too.

Nearly all hire companies charge for fuel / filling time. I purposely try to get ones who just give you a car with a full tank and dont charge but just expect you to bring it back with a full tank.

Good job I told you to get a car as pretty essential around that area IMHO.

^ yep, deffo needed a car.

we returned cars with a near empty tank- didnt know abt fuelling charges beforehandoO not fussed too much tho as the prices were fab- sure i couldve bargained down more but beggars cant be choosers and i only confirmed the cars abt 3 days before departure!

ta csi for the guidance, much appreciated.
