16GB iPhone 3G ...... how much?

Had enough of iTunes.... can't take it any more!

My 16GB iPhone is soon (hopefully) to be replaced by a nice shiny HTC Desire.

Just had a look on ebay... prices seem to vary considerably.

Item is in excellent condition and boxed. Bought February 2009....... and Black.

What could I expect to get for it and where would be the best place to put up for sale?

(Yes I'm aware of the 7 day rule...... but I expect higher prices will be elsewhere anyway, so a moot point!)

Ta Muchly.

PS..... No Trolling please.

yes, its 3G (It was bought last february before the 3GS was out).

I was shocked to see people on ebay with buy it now prices of £299 !

I'd certainly not be dissapointed with £240.... where would you think the best place to sell? Ebay?

yes, its in excellent unmark condition........ £270 sounds even better! tbh I'd rather be able to sell quickly rather than "hold out" for the absolute highest. Is that an ebay priice or general? Best place to sell?

I'm pretty sure I've seen them go on the For Sale /Trade threads for that in the recent-ish past.

I nearly sold mine for that a couple of months ago, but then changed my mind.

Can I thread hijack guv and ask for a price on exactly the same, but 3GS (black/16gb)?

I'll be buying the new one in a couple of months.

Indeed. This has come at a good time for me... though iPhones dont drop that much in price... right?

Best way to guage prices is to look to see how much CEX are selling the same model for in similar condition and take it from there. If they're selling for £300 then they may fetch a little more than that on eBay.

Generally CEX are spot on with their pricing as it's their business to know the value of the products they sell.

Ta... Hadnt thought about CEX

Sell and sell very quickly.

With WWDC in 2 weeks, the iPhone 3Gs value is going to go down quite a bit.

I would also ignore what master_chief says about using CEX as a price comparison, they're always inflated due to costs. Notoriously so with Apple products.

Easiest way to value a products second hand value is:

- Goto ebay, search completed listings for the same model
- Taking 10 completed lists, use those to get an average ebay value

Then either sell it on ebay or sell it somewhere like here or avforums, but minus roughly 10% off the ebay average value if you're selling anywhere except ebay. As that accounts for the additional listing, final valuation and paypal fees.

No, i'm just giving guv some advice.. Rather than your wrong advice..

I think me and you may look at a different internet entirely

Afraid not..

eBay iPhone 3G 16GB 'Mint Condition':
Item number: 300430761988 - £290 (Described and tag'd as IMMACULATE CONDITION)
Item number: 280509560539 - £281 (Described and tag'd as this iphone is 1 month old and is in mint condition it has had a screen protector and full body case on it from new, no scratches or scrapes very clean.)

Didn't notice the third one didn't come with a box though, never fear my friend.. I'll list some more for you:

Item number: 150445788368 - £285 (Decribed and tag'd as Mint Condition Apple iPhone 3G) - Also Unlocked.
Item number: 290437656772 - £275 (Described and tag'd as Brand new - is a replacement)

Should i go on chap?.. Again they're on the first page of recent completed listings.. And the average value of all together is £282.75.. Not exactly the £370 CEX charge.. As i said earlier, over inflated.. By just under £100.

It is terrifying how often you tend to put your foot directly into your own mouth.

To be honest, it's more fun watching you go to all this effort. You've done all the hard work for Guv though so I'm sure he'll be grateful.

I did actually mean, in the first instance, their buying price. I always advise people to look at their buy-in price and the selling price (somewhere between them both is a good price usually) not sure why I put just selling, I did say to take it from there, as in investigate further - a genuine mistake but thought I'd run with it for a laugh. I acted disgracefully and I apologise.

Proof I advise the buy it price when someone asks value of something -

Loving the quick edits vibeone, almost tripped up as bad as master_chief then didn't you hehe.

Well we were discussing master_chiefs £370 CEX valuation, and how CEX are prices in that regard are massively inflated.

But if we move onto CEX trade in, yeah £249 cash price at would be a good move for him. And a fair valuation.

Unfortunately as allot of us know on here, CEX can be a massive pain. They very often turn people away when they have a certain amount of stock, or not enough cash in the store. I've tried to sell both a 2G and 3G at CEX before, at three different stores. Was turned away by each. Has happened to a good deal of members on here. So i'd always recommend avoiding CEX when it comes to actually selling.

Plus you'll tend to get £250 on here for a mint condition iPhone 3G 16GB, if not a little bit more.

I would always say try avforums first, as when it comes to iPhones you get much less haggle on there. Particularly as the new version will be announced 2 weeks.

I don't have to see "differently" it in any way shape or form.

It's simply what you stated on the thread, then even went onto try and defend.. Unlucky chap.. It's only possible to backtrack that much when your posts leave a little room for ambiguity, yours do not. But again, it's still fun to see you keep digging that hole.

Did you look at the links I posted? The break in consistency was in this thread, I would never normally say follow the CEX selling price unless it actually tallied up to going rate.

I made a genuine error in my post, you picked up on it and I behaved a little childishly in continuing to stick by it instead of clarifying it there and then. The thing is you've developed an issue with me, of which I'm fine with, but it makes discussing things with you a little difficult.

If youre selling on eBay do an auction and mention that yours has warranty, it will be BIG selling point especially with the AppleCare programme. Also put that you bought it in February and you'll easily get £270+

I did, i also read what you stated. Which was wrong.

Thankfully - you've finally admitted that rather than trying to defend it throughout the thread.

The conservation only gets difficult when you attempt to push an issue which you're mistaken on, it wouldn't have if you'd taken a step back in the first place.

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of vibeone (which he is quite aware of), but i don't disagree or fight him on trade in value when i think what he is saying is correct. I just simply agree with him..

This is not a grudge or vendetta against you, you just to be reading into it far to much.. Please grow up.

If it's not a grudge then you must just have a general bad attitude.

I wouldn't defend something for pages and pages if I was in the wrong. I quickly acknowledge it. If I thought I was right then that's different, even then I don't continue debating for many pages just to try and get one up and taking a thread off topic.

As i said - which you fail to listen to..

If you had taken a step back in the first place, the issue wouldn't of exsisted. It's your mistake and not mine which esculated it, because you attempted to push it forward without taking that time to consider what you were saying.. That's not a flaw in my character, it's a flaw in yours.

You're right, I acknowledged I was wrong to continue it but I didn't do it for pages and pages and actually the outcome had a positive effect on the thread as you did plenty of research for the OP. Once you'd done the research I stopped arguing the point and admitted the mistake.

You definitely have a negative approach to initiating debate that doesn't start a conversation on the best foot, hence the lack of time I have for you in these threads anymore.
