1901 Fancy Dress Costume

I'm trying to do some research for a fancy dress party with a 1901 Chicago theme.

I can't seem to pin point an actual costume that would suit this era, also not sure if Chicago had something individual going on at this time.

So I thought I'd ask you, what would you wear ?

I've done all the googling, wiki-ing and ebaying I can and have come up with a huge variety of costumes hence my problem.

Any fashion gurus on here? :)

They were still being heavily influenced by Paris fashions back then, bustles and slick suits for guys.

Thanks for the replies :)

Choc that link was very useful I hadn't managed to find anything specific to the American Edwardian Period :)

The baseball idea would be quite novel too, although the whole weekends event is related to Vampires so would probably go with the gown idea, I think it might be more suited.

I know this is more Marie Antoinette Era... but do you think there might be a way to add or remove from this to make it more suited to the 1901 period.... wishful thinking perhaps but it just seems like a more fun costume :)

Thats pretty cool, I'm quite short though so would look a bit odd in that costume I think hmmm.

I'm quite torn with ideas though now... I like the costume above if I'm honest but wonder if I'd just look like I'm really bad at history ha ha!

Actually i wonder if I could hitch up the longer piece of material on the Vampiresque style costume to prevent me from looking realllllyyyyyyyyyyy short :) Edwardian with a twist heh

I think either outfit would look really sexy....think Interview With a Vampire, especially the big Paris crypt scene
