How many brides maids did you have? Girlfriend is having a terrible time deciding between her best friends, he best work colleague friends and her best cousins. So she would like 7 but that seems a lot to me.

Also is the groom supposed to have grooms man?? I thought we just got a best man.

Do you have best friends that were offended by your decision?

none of my friends were offended, i have 2 brothers and 2 sisters though and felt like i had to find 'jobs' for them all to do of the same importance so my little bro was an usher and my big bro was a witness

Remember that an adult bridesmaid dress can be anywhere from £100 upwards... hope you have deep pockets. lol

One thing you will learn about planning a wedding, you will offend someone, you cannot please everyone, remember thought to please yourselves and do what you want as it's your day.

+1 i agree... you and your fiancee do what you both want and don't feel pressured into trying to please people.... it's your day and you need to make it enjoyable for the both of you not everyone else :)

At my brothers wedding last weekend, they had a Matron of Honour (or the head honcho bridesmaid) and two other 'adult' bridesmaids and one little girl bridesmaid. On the grooms side, it was me (best man), two ushers and their young son who was ring-bearer.

Any more than a few bridesmaids and best man at the front of the church when the ceremony is taking place might be a bit crowded !!

She said she saw some for £50, also mentioned she feels they would be okay buying their own which I personally don't think is right.

There are no set rules, its entirely up to you to decide how many, loads of people are having groomsmen now, I think its to avoid any fuss because one person got picked as best man over others.

Weddings are a minefield and you walk a fine line to get the occassion you want without offending too many people who want their say/role. good luck.:)

i had four bridesmaid and one pageboy but the parents of the bridesmaids bought their dresses and pageboy bought his own
we had this instead of present worked out good for all sides

7 is a lot, also I think it be you and her or whoever footing the wedding bill paying for the dresses and not them individually.

My partner's brother decided to get married next year, and it's been mentioned that my daughter going be a bridesmaid,I said well don't expect me to buy no dress, and she ain't wearing anything silly either,I don't expect to keep the dress either.

It really does depend, if your fiance has 7 really close friends and sisters then its going to be really difficult to choose, and cause offence to the ones not picked, its quite common to buy own bridesmaids dress or even hire them, another option is to have a maid of honour and then have a child or two as bridesmaids, that way they are all treated equally.

Good advice....agreed.

i had 3 bridesmaids and 1 flowergirl and a pageboy, but everyone is different and at the end of the day its what you both want remember so dont just give in to make the oh happy, 7 does seem a little extreme though!

When I got married, we did it in Jamaica, just the two of us and then had a big reception when we came home. This was perfect for us but not everyones cup of tea!

My sister got married in November and had me as the maid of honour, my brothers girlfriend as her brides maid, my two brothers as ushers and then the groom had his best mate as bestman.

It's your wedding so you can do whatever you like really, please yourselves because its almost impossible not to offend or upset someone else at weddings. However a sure fire way to hack the bridesmaids off would be to go with the idea that they foot the bill for their own dresses!

7 bridesmaids!!!!!!!!! If she is thinking taht way I hope you have deep pockets.

Do what is right for YOUR day, I have recently sacked my best man due to him throwing a strop as I have banned kids from the reception and he has 4 rugrats, and wont be having one, I can hold the rings myself and make a speech.

!!!

It's your G/F's wedding so she can basically do what she likes. 7 bridesmaids is too many though IMO - over 4 and it looks like a posse.

My mum has thrown in that she wants my niece to be a brides maid too. She will be 6 when we get married so was hoping she would be a flower girl holding hands with my nephew who's a bit younger.

Ushers are her brother and my brother. Though my brother is very shy so don't know how he will cope with directing people. Is that what they do? I need a book i think.

Put your foot down - both of them get to hand over horseshoes and that's it!!

I already see proposing was the easy bit.

Grooms men is the term given to the blokes side like brides maids :P
I will be going against the convention when i get married, my best friend is female so she is going have to be my Best "Man". I think its pretty usual to have 3/4 on each side a maid of honour / Best man + 2 or 3 brides maids or grooms men.

Not knowing the situation or the relationships, but i would be going with my best friends as my bridesmaids.

Too true

I can understand why weddings abroad alone or just with immediate family are so popular.
As for me back in the 80s we'd booked a holiday and my mum was nagging us that we should ha spent the money on a house - which got us looking at houses - within a week or so we'd got our offer accepted with completion due while we were on holiday; so then we thought wouldn't it be romantic to get married, have the holiday as our honeymoon and come back to live in our new house together? If you leave 6 weeks to plan and book the wedding and at the same time buy a house you don't have too much time to fight over numbers of bridesmaids or lettering on wedding invites :)

Regardless of what you choose - stick together and make it your day - make it special but don't get carried away on cost - and don't burn any bridges (you really don't want to lose family and friends 'cos that'll blight more than your wedding day) I'm sure you'll have a wonderful day

Not in my opinion, I couldn't think of anything worse unless the kids were sedated. Then they are welcome to come.
