Surely its a case of who puts a offer in, or who offers asking?

Why are 1st dibs allowed?

I'd agree, if you want the item make an offer.

Most of the time the folk who want 1st dibs don't buy it anyway!

It is up to the seller, he/she can sell to whoever they choose.

Asking price/1st offer is not binding. :)

I often wonder about this, as sometimes i see ppl jumping in saying they want the item, and the first one to ask will say "sorry, i got there first" or some such. Always seems to me like the first person to offer asking price is the one to get it, which i think is carp. What if the first person has no or bad feedback but second person to offer has great feedback? i would rather sell to them.
