20 meg to get free upgrade to 30 meg.................. Virgin Media

Virgin Media is poised to announce a free upgrade for all its 20Mb broadband internet customers to a new 30Mb service tier.

The plans, which have been subject to intense speculation for months, were accidentally leaked yesterday when the ISP started updating terms and conditions published on many of its web pages.

Under the heading “The Legal Stuff”, in a section explaining which customers can get a free Superhub router, comes the giveaway text: “Free Virgin Media Superhub for XL and XXL: Available to all new Broadband customers taking our Size: XL, Size: XXL and Size:100 Broadband services, and to existing customers upgrading to 30Mb, 50Mb and 100Mb broadband (subject to status and credit checks).”

An insider yesterday confirmed that Virgin Media’s new service tier will replace the 20Mb offering and will come with a 3Mb upload speed. It has been in the planning for some time, he added.

He declined to give a launch date, although several other sources have suggested an official announcement may come within a week.

This hasn't been proved yet, the customers who did order the upgrade when the site was live, showed the £30 charge is for a activation fee and the superhub is free.

lol I'm on 20mb but getting 10mb during peak times because the ubr is oversubscribed which has been going on since start of December and won't be solved till end of March.

Then I'll downgrade from my 50Mb, as I only ever get 1.5Mb upstream on that!

thats 700mb in 140 seconds :)

Defienetly true. I went to cancel my 10mb, and they upgraded me to 20mb saying it will be 30mb around March time. This was going back almost a month now.

You will end up with 5Mbps upload so just be patient!

Check when your UBR is going to be upgraded via this http://shop.virginmedia.com/content/dam/allyours/pdf/uploadschedule2012.pdf

So being on 50meg atm and looking at that chart adam, my location is cosham which says already upgraded, what exactly can i expect ?? MY upload is still the same as when i took out the 50meg service a year ago and i notice no change.
#16
Squelds, you may be one of the last few to receive the upgrade and they have been reported to stating it's available prior to 100% completion!!

Also check that you are indeed connected to the Cosham UBR, google how to do this. Because some people end up being on different Headends for some reason!?

Try this link to find out your UBR http://tools.virginmedia.com/

You should receive and email confirming this from Virgin but if you have been upgraded on the 50Mbps service you should be receiving 5Mbps upload.
You do have to reset your modem to receive this so if you haven't for a while unplug it for 30secs and see if that pushes it through.

Not sure to be honest, might of been in order to reduce load if they had alot of contention on that headend. July is better than being planned, and at least it's a free upgrade buddy!
