I have just been told that my crank shaft has gone on my pug 206 HDi, After doing a bit of research i have found out it is a common problem on the HDi models, Now the parts breakdown it looks like it is just 1 bolt that holds it together, (is this true) and is it easy to change for somebody who has a good engineering background on aircraft but not cars!!!!!

I'm pretty sure you have to remove the turbo, cam belt and crankshaft pulley and crankshaft. Maybe wrong, mine had the crankshaft pulley done, there poor theres been 3 revisions of them. Tbh your best off doing the cambelt full kit when your there if your thinking about doing it.

Is there car worth doing?

Mine was the 306 and it was 300 quid pulley after labour and the cambelt, and I din't even replace the water pump. My diesel pump also has play in it, and a noisey bearing.

A camshaft phaser comprising a differential bevel gear arrangement to vary the phase relationship of a camshaft to a crankshaft in an internal combustion engine. In the differential gear system, a 45° beveled input gear is mounted parallel to and coaxial with a 45° beveled output gear. One or more 45° beveled spider gears is disposed in meshed relationship with the input and output gears in a gear pattern having a rectangular cross-sectional appearance. Rotation of the input gear causes an opposite rotation of the output gear. The phase relationship between the input and output gears may be varied by varying the position of the spider gear. The input gear and spider gears may be driven via a sprocket in time with the crankshaft in a plurality of arrangements. :w00t:

Crankshaft or Camshaft? Either way it's going to be a hell of a job.

crank shaft, its only 1 bolt that slides onto the crankshaft with a keyway in it and the tighten up fastner again, put belt rd pulley anf use belt tensioner to tighten the belt. no problemo

So you just want to change the pulley then?
