My lovely fiance would like to get another pup but we already have a 3yr old black lab Barney, am a bit worried that getting another dog would create madness and unsettle him. Just wondering if anyone has 2 dog's would you recommend it? How much more of a hassle is it? Many thanks x

I have 2 dogs, its great having 2 of them and i wouldnt be without them - it can be hard to adjust to but it happens, just double the vet bills, food, etc.

If you have the time and patience then go for it! Just slowly introduce them to each other, if you get a crate and put pup in it when you get one then let your older dog sniff them, also Barney might turn back into puppy ways again and act like a pup, but will soon pass.

Oh I would def get another one as I think they keep each other company..Used to have a Lab (no longer with us sadly) but would definitely get two next time.

Just saw a pic of your doggie's,there are so gorgeous, good luck with your girl's pregnancy they will be some cute puppie's. Barney is really good with other dog's and i would hope he would be fine with another dog in house, but thank's for your tip's.And he act's like a puppy anyway he's a typical mental lab lol

Wow busy household you must have lol.i am thinking about getting a smaller dog this time, but am scared barney would roll over and squash it lol.but if your yorkie has not been squashed by a german shepard am sure it would be fine. I would love a cat 2 but partner doesnt like cat's because he's a weirdo lol.

Thanks, yeah labs are nutts arent they, i had one yrs ago but unfortunatly she got poorly and was at the end of her life and started snapping everytime anyone went near her, the vets decided to put her to sleep as it was better for her :(

My family has always had dogs in 2's they love the company of their own type so to speak lol
I think it is easier to train the second when yo already have one fully trained mine is just over 2 and we planned another one now but we are staying with my folks at the moment and they have 3 so will have to wait until we move into our new house.
Good luck x

Yeah i think that is a good idea, barney is at a good age now i think to introduce another, but all my family and friend's say it's a bad idea to get another one cause it's to much work.
aww that's nice what type of dog do you have now? and what are you thinking of getting?

Go for it you only live once if its hard work then you know never to do it again lol...

It is hard work, im at home all day and have the 2 of them playing, running loony round the house, i walk them seperatly as well so they get their individual time out as well.
They are fab dogs and have settled well. Bessy is 3.5 and Rocky is nearly 1 (mating was an accident lol) and they love each other to bits.
Go onnnnnnnn be a dare devil lol

I will hold you responsible when am sobbing on here when my new puppy has chewed my bed, carpet, sofa etc lol.my friend's puppy ate part of her wall in her house :w00t:

Barney was such a angel when he was litle only chewed the skirten board slightly so i know this time am going to get a terror lol. I'm quite lucky cause i work from home so have loads of time to look after the dog's walks etc. Hehe naughty doggies need to keep a eye on them next time to make sure there are not anymore wee accident's lol.

its easier with a second dog well it was for me he didnt chew anything and touch wood as never had accident in the home he just seemed to copy the other dog or the cats (not using the cat litter) and his training was really easy as i say he just copied the others i was really surprised but so happy lol

Rocky first time ever tried to chew my leather sofa today!!! I told him no lol...he is good tho as when we are out or at night he goes in his crate.

I had Poppi for a year before i got another dog and i think it was the best thing i have ever done. It really calmed her down as she was a 'chewer' Asbo had to stick up for himself quite a bit when he was a puppy, but now 4 years on I think they would be lost without each other. I don't think 2 makes that much of a difference to looking after one apart from a bit more food and poo!!

So i say YES, totally go for it, I wouldn't be without either of mine.

I have a boxer looking at a mastiff or bull dog
We have always used crates/cages for ours and its so nice to know they are safe and so is the furniture lol

I have 2 dogs - both large and boisterous. They're both two years old and I'd recommend having 2 dogs to anyone. We also have 6 cats and they all get along pretty well. My daughter frequently brings round her miniature Yorkie and Westie and all get along fine.

I have a West Highland Terrier (Scooby) & a border collie (Harley) wouldnt be without either of them, their both boys.

This vid was when we first got Harley (Scooby was about 9 months then)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46MInRoo7e0

This one is them one year on both grown up a bit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2VcnSqTe1w

Both insured which costs us just over £20 a month, they eat the same food which we buy in bulk and they've never fallen out, they share everything from food, treats and toys.

Harley sleeps in a crate (would be chewer if given the chance) Scooby sleeps in a little bed next to the crate, both in the kitchen, we also use stair gates (the tall dog ones from Argos) so we can control them if people arrive or workmen need to do jobs.

I'd also recommend 2 dogs to anyone - they have company when we are out, our are inseperable.

We also have 2 aquariums with tropical fish in
