i have the main bt box near the front door my pc's etc are in the bedroom

like a muppet i went out got a cheapo extension lead the phone works fine yet the the modem/broadband wont get a signal, i am 99% sure its the lead as the modem plugged in to either filter works fine once plugged direct into the socket near the front door

BT was £166 to fit a second socket (they must be having a bubble)

the bedroom has a 2nd socket but the wire has been cut

i was advised why not wire it yourself

does anyone no if the wire in an extension lead wired direct from main socket into the second socket will work

or will i need a new socket + wire etc

anyone got a diagram of what i need to do as well please

cheers :P

Yeah I got trouble with my modem running off an extension

Had trouble with mine running off extension. Ran a new cable from existing box and put another socket on end - hey presto all sorted! The quality of the cable if cheap or squashed etc will cause a weak connection!
#11
yeah the bestt i can think of is to either connect an i-plate up or unscrew you main socket and plug the extension in to the test socket inside.
#12
You got the filter before the extension??
#13
yes m8 filter then extension

You will need http://www.telephonediy.co.uk/how.to.wire.bt.extension/new_how_to003010.jpg inserter tool, top is BT type bottom is cheap DIY.
http://www.oftc.usyd.edu.au/edweb/revolution/technology/images/twisted_pair.jpg Twisted pair cable this is 4 pair.

Running a wire is easy, go to B&Q and buy twisted copper pair (make sure it's rounded and not flat as I suspect your cheapo extension is, these can add alot of noise, to a line) really you'll need 2 pair (4 wires) but 1 pair (2 wires will do). remove the faceplate from the NTE5 master socket, on the inserts that say 2 & 5 use the inserter too, to push down the blue and white pair, it doesn't matter which cable goes on which end., run your wire and do the same with the extension socket. You can connect number 3 (use the solid orange if you do this) to provide a bell in the circuit, in honesty it's not needed as filters have capacitors that will make the phone ring. Any problems message me. Should cost you £10-£15 tops to DIY

You can wire it yourself, BT/Openreach's network it up to the NTE5, your network begins from the NTE5 faceplate. Don't use burglar alarm wire in place of phone wire, you'll get a similar problem. Message me if you need any advice/pointers
