Might be worth filling up before then, but not good....

*******s!!

As if the 60% fuel tax (or was it 80%) wasn't enough!

I just can't see these global warming issues, if there isn't much oil left, then when it runs out global warming can just **** off then!

Grrr!
#3
So whose going to going to organise the fuel station blockades, like the ones in 2000?

Think it would be easier just to steal a tanker! :giggle:

If you cant afford to run/keep a car you shouldnt have one.

Like saying to a pensioner - If you cannot afford to heat your house don't turn the heating on...

Some people do need a car for essential journeys, plus the increase in fuel duty affects all kinds ie the cost of food being delivered to the shops etc

I can run one, but not when they keep hiking up costs like this. Where does the money go? Sure doesn't go into road repairs or alternate transport options. For me to get to where i work, without a car, would involve a journey of 1.5 hours, conservatively.

Would you say to people, you shouldn't own a house if you could once afford the mortgage but circumstances change, like inflation, interest rate hikes?

That's a very selfish comment to make. You should work in the media, you'd have a field day making comments like that on radio phone in shows, they'd be queuing up to ring in......

Vote for a change at the next election then.
I used to be a solid Labour supporter. Now they have decided to take Labour to the right, stealing Tory territory, you may as well just vote for Cameron.
The Brown you see now is nothing to the Brown you'll see once he has a mandate. He'll tear this country a new butt if he gets four years to play with. Don't give him the opportunity. Take a chance with the Conervatives, they can't do any worse for sure.

but the 2ps quickly add up. it may not seem alot, when it's one 2p, but if your filling ur car up it adds alot

I was simply saying that if you want a change, then vote for it. Gorgon (deliberate freudian slip) Brown is giving us the 'laughing, smiling' version of his persona atm to win votes. Once he has his mandate, you'll see the old 'tax 'em high' version rear it's ugly head again. If that happens, will the last one to leave the UK please remember to turn off the lights?
The fuel escalator will reach unseen heights, and the revenue will continue to fund the building of airports and roads, and the installation of more Gatsos and CCTV, as opposed to lightening the overall tax burden.
Tory, Liberal, UKIP, whatever, it all equals a kick in the teeth for the New totalitarian version of the Labour party.
#12
They have to raise the revenue for the war for somewhere.

When is the last time you put 1lr of fuel in your car? Last time I filled up, I put in 35ltrs. An extra 70p.
70p isn't a lot neither, but £35.70 is. Then what about the next rise? And the next? etc, etc. That £35.70 will soon be £50.
My main gripe is paying the same to fuel my little Fiesta as a gas guzzling Discovery 4x4.

yeh but you must get more MPG in your car :-D

True :)
I usually get around 130miles for a tenner of 95 octane, by driving economically at as close to 2200rpm as I can muster.

But you also said
"If you cant afford to run/keep a car you shouldn't have one"

But what I'm saying is that a car is essential to some people on low income so a 2p increase will affect them when fill up. Plus the 2p will have an impact on deliveries to stores, public transport etc

Gas and electricity increases substantially each year and affects pensioners who have difficult paying for it, so if they cannot afford the increase they should not have heat during the winter?

If people/media do not complain whats to stop companies/government continually increasing the cost of essential items?

thats good.. . .. think how many miles those "gas guzzlers" as you call them will get on a tenner! :giggle:

The problem is, this is life, its never going to go down, everything goes up, you have to expect it....... too many people in this world live beyond their means.
#19
We spend about £ 500 per week on fuel so its going to hit us hard. Only 2p to some but a job to others

I hear what your saying, and yes it will have an effect on everything else, but we have to expect it. things arnt the same prices they were 20 years ago, and they wont be the same in 20 years to come.
People should show their complaints in the way of voting. too many people who moan and winge dont use their vote...

The Budget also outlined another rise of 2p a litre next April and a further increase of 1.84p in April 2009.

How can that be ONLY 2p :w00t:
#22

If gas really was £2 per litre (like you suggest), you'd soon be back!

(Ok - not quite - but fuel has increased quite a bit - and was about $3.90 a US gallon when I was there back in April. Still loads cheaper than here of course, but its no longer treated like it were water.)
#25
2ps add up.

AA are saying roughly a fiver per tank. I think its beyond a joke, the government are just taking tax payers, and vehicle drivers on a ride to basically putting their hand out and say give me your money. What I read about road tax going up, thats a load of bs also. But, you can only blame people who voted labour, but no other party seems to be able to make the country run efficiently on how the past looks. Though I won't say no more because I'm not able to vote.
#26
lol at those saying its only 2p

its 2p per litre dont forget

does anyone know if the price of LPG will go up aswell?

I'll bet it does. It has nothing to do with ethics and everything to do with raising revenue :x
We are governed by hypocrites. I wouldn't mind if public transport was a viable alternative. But it isn't. It's utter garbage, and overpriced at that.
#28

What an idiotic thing to say,So they have the right to rip motorists off then do they because if it wasn't for the motorist this country would be in deep shxt the morons running it haven't got a clue.
#29
Crazy Crazy Crazy! The only reason they get away with this is because we won't do anything about it! If this was the same in France they would rebel and it would all be fixed (Like the ol car clamping super glue days). Just because the british are too chicken to rebel against the government! Bet they are laughing in ther big V8 jags as we speak!

And the stupid thing is the government think this will somehow reduce emissions? Anyone who has a basic understanding of G.C.S.E economics will have heard of the term liquidity. In a basic sense:-

Change in price of petrol = very little change in demand of petrol.

So even if they charge £2 per litre at the pumps demand for petrol will still be unlikely to change at a countrywide level.

(SO WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS SIMPLY RIPPING US OFF!! ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH CLIMATE CHANGE!)

Also you gotta remember as more and more people stop smoking they get less tax from fags! Soooooo they gotta stick it somewhere or else they would maybe have to sell one of their houses or my god no not ther V8 jag!!! (Or one of them)
#30
2p does not sound a lot but when you are trying to run a small business in this country you seem to be penalised left right and centre. Does the government not relise that this may put more people on the 'dole queue'. We have a small company of just 6 people and we can not, as some people think, pass the buck and charge more. This is a very cut throat business and we will, if it carries on rising, have to fold up the company and we will all be claiming benefits...
Is this realy cost effective!!!!!!!!
#31
Its becuase this country at the moment is being run by absolute half-wits! I mean come on they cant even count!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7068291.stm

"Im sorry..." WELL WHAT THE HELL YOU GONNA DO ABOUT U RETARDS!
#33
they make it harder for people who have a standard car. People who own a nice car like a range rover or something it doesnt bother them as they paid alot for the car wouldnt bother them that much if fuel went up.
#34
Just doing some tidying up, and have found a bunch of old receipts.
One is for fuel, 30/11/06. Fuel was 83.9p for unleaded, same price now would be 95.9p.
That's just over 14% in one calendar year. Wow
#35
^^
Ive have receipts from 93 as it was then £2.23 a gallon, those were the days.....

It ****s me off so badly that this will never chance, prices will always go up motorists are cash cows and as such will always get tucked up!
#36
and then the road tolls have allready started in some cities, we motorists are paying tax out of our ears as we pay road tax, fuel tax and then have to pay to use some roads so more tax......

if i win tongihts lottery i might not be as p***ed of as i am at the moment

Bastids! I read the title and thought it was TONIGHT. Made me panic
