Do any of you have a 3 door car & young children as well? Do you find it a pain in the bum getting them in & out of their car seats?

Thanks in advance

I wouldnt think having a 3 door would be too much grief as your two arent babies so they dont need much help with their belts:-Dbut i wouldnt recommend a FIAT (fix it again tomorrow!)

If they can walk and the car seat will always stay in that car then i guess it isnt to bad because you only have to strap them in. IF you have to place them in the car seat its a pain on your back. I now have a 5 door and its so much easier

No they can both get in themselves which isn't too bad. But a few people have said not to get a 3 door because it's too much hassle etc.

My wife drives a 3 door clio and its an absolute nightmare getting the little un in and out of the back. We're getting rid of it this month to get a 5 door (not Clio!)

Oh dear lol. Thanks for letting me know! :-D

I've just realised that the Punto sporting is insurance group 7 so maybe I won't be getting one of those, ha! The car I've got now is only insurance group 3.

I'm not sure how much more the insurance would be but I'm sure it'd be quite a bit!

I wouldn't get a 3-door - too much hassle when they're little and too cramped now the 15-year-old is a 6-footer!! :-D (And don't forget they grow faster than you think ...!)

I've never liked the idea of 3-doors anyway - even without kids, I didn't like the idea of even giving someone a lift, in case there was an accident. Would be harder to get out of the back. That's just me being paranoid, though. :)

personally I would never get a 3 door with kids. My lads are teenagers now and we had a 3 door when they were toddlers, absolute nightmare getting them in and out. Little things like, parking on a busy road and having the door wide open to reach in and get them......the front seat dropped back once and hit one of them in the face...never again, the hassle of getting them out quickly in an emergency etc

we had a 3 door a couple of yr ago mine were 5 and 7 and i hated it, dropping them off anywhere or when adults got in was more hastle keep moving the seat up and down, they harder to clean as well and my kids are so messy it wasnt the car for me i found 5 doors alot easier

Don't get a 3 door!! I bought a bmw 2 door before my kids were born, getting seats in and out is a pain. I now use my work car (vectra) as my only car - i dont touch the bmw, the mrs uses it for work. Go for a proper family car

I have a 3 door 307cc got it when my kids were 3 & 6 they think it's great trying to get out without moving the seat it's the skinny minnie test. Had the car for just over two years now if it's just for you n Kids I would say not a problem but if your wanting to transport adults I would consider a 5 door for ease good luck with your decision x

i prefer the 3 door personally, because my niece opened the back door on my old car, not hurt in any way but i paniced like a maniac (i turned the child locks off because i was having an adult weekend and it gets a pain having to open the door for grown-ups) so i'm much more comfortable knowing they can't escape from the back seat or through the rear window.

I had a Fiat Punto Sporting, sold it to my MIL when I had my daughter - it is TINY in the back and you must be crazy to even be considering buying such a tiny car with 2 growing children :w00t:

Buy with your head, not your heart :-D

Thanks for all your replies.

I've decided not to go for a 3 door and I'm probably not going to get a Punto now either! A few people have now said that Punto's are unreliable so maybe I need to think about getting something else! Back to the drawing board it is.

I'll rep as many of you as I can today, the rest I'll rep tomorrow :)

Glad I could help, hun.
Woman to woman, I have done enough thinking with my heart rather than my head :giggle:

I would only ever get a 5 door, something thats been passed to me from my mum because she always worried if there was an accident its harder to get to people in the back. I also think its a convenience thing though, dont see why anyone would go for a 3 door

Oh and I have a fiat panda 100HP and have had no problems with it yet, its a great little car, bigger than it seems from the outside as well.
