xclamp kits are available all over ebay and come with instructions.

matter of unscrewing the heatsinks, taking all the dodgy poor thermal compound off, replacing it with a very thin amount of good stuff, then screwing it all back together with the new screws and washers provided.

how long will it last with this repair?

You might as well get a 2nd hand base unit of here, they go for around £60, and sell your old one on ebay. It'll be cheaper than repairing it

xclamp kits cost a few quid, but if you plan on doing it on your own, in a non ESD save environment, you could do more damage than started with, some xclamp fixes weather done professionally or not dont fix it at all. All depends how many times it has overheated and weather the chip has melted anyway..

as a cheap fix, i'd attempt it m8 if i were you. if all else fails then go for a replacement box, the new ones are available on ebay for 80 quid but they are the non moddable lite-on ones.

Failing that and if you really need a modded or modable one, try to get a first version HDMI, there is still some kicking around and are very easy to mod, but if you even mention HDMI FALCON BENQ xboxes, your price just went up to 130 for just the box!

I thought i'd be able to find one of those but i'm having no luck so far, any ideas?

Did this happen just after you flashed it?

there is more than you think, it does take patience and a lot of messaging through the ebay system, one seller even has them at a starting of 69.99 plus 12.99 delivery, they do tend to go for near 100 though (for just the box)

As for a Falcon, again, just persevere asking the same questions, make a question in a text document and just past it in on ones you think could be..

Best to look for arcades as they were the change over to hdmi, premiums will bring up old ones, elites just far too expensive cos of the carp black plastic wrapped around it lol

do ms replace the motherboard with the same generation? e.g. zeypher with a zeypher? or would they just reflow that particualr mobo?

1 of them had a couple of marks on the seal but nothing too bad

The other had no seal at all

Both belonged to family members but were dealt with by me.

Think its luck really; I've got no reason to think M$ employees like the company any more than i do, so they probably just don't look / don't care

These were both about 18 months ago and were replaced with 100% new consoles in both cases

There's a chap on fleabay selling stickers, works out at about £15ish inc delivery, mates have used him several times before, very reliable even though it comes from china.. I'll see if i can find the bay no... much cheaper than buying a second hand one, and microsoft are still sending out repaired consoles with hitachi drives..

As for the x clamp fix, it does work on 9 out of 10 consoles i have fixed, but you do get the odd stubborn one. They tend to last 6 months at a minimum if its done properly and not just heated to death.. though i'd only advise that road if you want to keep your flashed box, as there's a good chance microsoft will send you a liteon console (though to be honest both the ones i've sent back recently have come back with flashable drives..)
