3 mobile - Keep number

I think already know the answer to this but thought I would ask here as you people are mutts when it comes to getting things done.

My missus was with 3 for her mobile contract. Her contract came up for renewal and she spoke to 3 her lowered her payments by £10/month which was great. However before she committed I told her to ring Orange and tell them what 3 had offered and see if they would beat it.

They wouldn't so she went back to 3, but this time noticed an offer on their website for £19/month for 1100 (minutes/txts) which is far better than what they offered her.

So she rang and said she wanted that deal and was told it was for new customer's only(just like the advert).

So after arguing with them for a while, she cancelled her contract and signed up for the new customers deal.

However this means she will lose her number, is there any way she can transfer it to her new phone?

Yup.

Ring three customer services and ask for the PAC code the number she wishes to keep.

This takes around 5 days-ish to process.

Once you have the number, ring three again, and tell them you want to port your old number to your new contract number. They will ask for the PAC code to do this. Takes around 7 days for the change to take place.

I tried exactly this once with Orange, but was told in no uncertain terms that I couldn't port a number over in the first 12m as it was an existing Orange number and no other numbers were allowed either.

Hopefully 3 are better to deal with for this.

Hmm.

In the past, I've done it from O2 to O2, and from different networks to three.

If all fails, I guess the OP could try porting the number she wishes to keep, onto a O2 PAYG contract, then requesting a PAC code for that to move back to three?

Superb news, thank you! :)

Like they've said above transfer to a spare o2 sim and transfer back to the new contract. Quite likely they'll take the number, on cashback contracts it's generally a bad idea but should be fine here.
