Its my upgrade time and o2 are not playing ball.
They are offering me a really poor phone although I am happy witht he actual tariff.

I have an iphone so I have no intentions of using the phone they give me, I will give that to the missus but I want to know if I was to move to 3 could I use that sim in my iphone once it has been unlocked ( officially through o2)?

The 3 contract I have found comes with free web browsing so it is great for the iphone but will it be easy enough to set up?

I would really appreciate some help with this as I am just going round and round in circles and need to get this sorted!

Thanks

is it the 3g/3gs, i don't see a reason why not, 3 are offering the iphone as upgrades to customers over the phone now, i know somebody who managed to get the iphone for £21 a month with 500 mins and unlimited texts,

get in touch with 3 by ringing 333 off handset, its free, they'll be able to tell you if they can send you settings for your phone

try again insisting you want the iphone, i've had a few customers saying they had upgraded to it direct, '333' from your handset, mind you they did come in on the weekend so they could have started doing it after you rang them

I have heard mixed messages about 3 offering the iphone. Some say they do others say they don't.

Its just that I have been an o2 customer for several years and while I am happy with the tariff i am on, the phones they are offering simply are not good enough. I have seen a deal on 3 website and think I may go with this. But I need to make sure that the 3 sim and internet will work on my iphone 3g.

Thanks

I have a 3 sim card in my iphone. Its an absolutely rubbish network. The reception is awful. I cant use the internet except when connected to wifi due to bad reception. The reception in your area might be better not sure.

Are you wanting a new iPhone or planning on using the existing one?
You can unlock the one that you've got on your O2 contract for free, directly by O2 link

After that you can plug in whatever sim card you have, including a 3 one.
Setting up Internet isn't a problem, seeing as 3 are getting the iPhone anyway, you should be able to ask them to send you the settings, otherwise a quick Google should tell you how it's done example

that is the other problem I have, is my concern over connection.

o2 signal at my house is faultless I have to say

I used to have an o2 sim card in my iphone. The connection was flawless with o2 in my house as well.

Beware of the coverage in your house with 3's network...not the best coverage. But to answer your question, if you unlock your iphone through O2 officially(it will be free of charge as well) then you can put any SIM into it, contact that network provider and make sure the internet settings are correct.

Further Info via my work - O2 say you have to have the phone for 12 months and then no further charges will apply if you unlock the iphone and put another networks SIM in, but thats only if you end your contract, if you continue your contract then you'd still have to pay the remainder of that contract but the phone will be unlocked free of charge.

I just find it hard to believe that the two phones o2 can offer me are the samsung genio and nokia 6303.

Dont carry on with O2 then. Leave and find better deal elsewhere with a better phone. Or see if you can get a better deal on the current contract (i.e more mins/txts and less pounds) rather than take a new phone.

Just been talking with a 3 operator online and they still claim they dont have the Iphone

my o2 contract will be finishing soon and I purchased an iphone PAYG about a month ago, requested it to be officially unlocked via O2 which they successfully completed for me. Now I use my 3 SIM in my iphone no probs at all. Happy Days. :)

well I contacted them and they couldnt offer anything that was any decent. The customer service advisor was all nicey nicey until i said I want to cancel, then he was quite rude.
So I have told him I want to cancel but o2 do an awesome sim only contract with unlimited web for £20 and he tried to get me on that but when I told him I wanted to cancel but I was going to take out the sim only contract via quidco through o2 to get £100 cash back he couldnt work it out and said what will you gain from doing that? I said £100 towards a phone!
